barkest
Hi, is it correct that Bot Z is only available when I create a shape then extrude from the top/plan view? also, If I have a 3D object and I want to place it at 0,0,0 how do I do this? The Modify > Move > Move3D is an offset from the objects current position and the object info does not show its current position. Also when I move the object it shows the polar coords (I think) rather than the cartesian. Is it possible to switch these? thank you Quote Link to comment
Dieter @ DWorks
Place a loci on 0,0,0 and move your object by grabbing it at the point that needs to be at 0,0,0. Or you can use the move by points tool and enter the 0,0,0 point in the floating data bar. Quote Link to comment
barkest
thank you. In the manual (2012) page 262 seems to show that you can use the Move 3D to either enter cartesian or an offset but I can't see how. thanks again Quote Link to comment
barkest
ignore that last post I see know what the manual is saying Quote Link to comment
barkest
Using the move by points tool the data bar (2012 not floating) shows polar (L, A) and not cartesian. Can this be changed? thank you Quote Link to comment
barkest
Also, the loci is 2D which means I can place it at 0,0 but there is no parameter to set for Z. All I want to be able to do is grab a 3D object and place a chosen point at a specific x,y,z coord. thanks Quote Link to comment
Dieter @ DWorks
You also have 3D loci, in the 3D palette. And if you tab the data bar, you have other options than only the L and A. Edited August 10, 2012 by DWorks Quote Link to comment
barkest
Thanks for your patience. I start to drag the 3D object and the data bar flashes with x, y, z but then goes to LA . I hit tab and its just LA. How can I display x,y,z? (no idea why it flashes when I start to move then goes to LA) thank you again Quote Link to comment
Dieter @ DWorks
keep tabbing, after the last one you see, the data bar will expand. Quote Link to comment

barkest
Thank you Vincent. I have no idea why when I drag a point of a 3D object the X,Y shows in the data bar then when I hit tab it becomes Polar (sometimes the X,Y only flash) this works great and is what I was looking for. Thank you again and also DWorks Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
The easiest way to move any 3D object to 0,0 in x and y is to group it, switch to top/plan view and type 0 into the group's x and y co-ordinates in the OIP. Then ungroup it. You can then change the Bot Z to zero as well. Accurately placed, though it is a workaround...... Grouping things is a good workaround for lots of things, including scaling things that don't normally scale. KM Quote Link to comment
barkest
thanks that works for the x and y very well Quote Link to comment
