Take a page or two from the Maxon Cinema 4D playbook....

Kevin McAllister

Question

It would be great to see -

- preview the new version in advance of its release

- instant right click help for any tool/palette/menu

- interface customization that fluid and flexible

- live weekly demos (ie. Cineversity Live)

- improvements like the new snapping features (think working planes done right), guides, camera calibrator (think camera match integration), wood shader improvements found in the newly announce Cinema 4D R14

Thank you Kevin

I don't use C4D, but these all make sense.

+1 for all.

And especially:

instant right click help for any tool/palette/menu

Extended Wish for Vectorworks Help:

Every Vectorworks element (interface element, process, object, tool, command, etc) should be accessible in Help via search tags, keywords & acronyms leading to a help topic with how/where to find the element in the interface, a basic explanation of intended purpose and use, and demo graphic or video where appropriate.

Double Secret Extended Wish:

All the above, plus Full discussion within each Help topic of common practice and workflow suggestions. It's already started as chapters within the current crop of videos and guides.

Could be a Wiki created by users (at Wikipedia?).

All good, but this just means they would still be leaving the users to find workarounds.

Better if it just works perfectly out of the box. :)

Yes! Make Vectorworks function well and as expected.

Although users unfamiliar with the intended function of any feature would benefit from the explanation.

My extensions to Kevin's wish push Help (right click cues and in the Help document) to be more like a manual and less like a glossary. I think manuals will always have a place separate from Help. But Help writers should really anticipate needs of users.
