Massing Model vs 3d Architectural Model on 3d site Model

Recommended Posts

Greetings

As a general inquiry from one who does both 3d site plans and architectural models...

Which is the preferred method when is doing a project with both?

Namely, does one draw up a 3d house model separately, then draw a massing model on the 3d site plan?

I know from past experience using ArchiCAD, that having it all on one really surpassed the capabily of the RAM to handle it.

So I had to have a building shell devoid of any interior placed on the site model

Can one then insert a 3d building shell model as a symbol on the site plan like an XREF?

Then when they make design changes to that shell they will automatically update?

Thanks

So a remote viewport of the building can be ovelapped with your viewport of your site plan for a combined rendering?

No, a Design Layer Viewport is different from a flat Sheet Layer Viewport. A DLVP is very similar to the old "Layer Links" from Minicad days. It can be viewed from all angles like a model, but it's a "viewport" object, that can be placed directly on the site model in 3D space.

Design Layer Viewport Referencing is turned on by a radio button under the Referencing Window "Settings".
