VW 11.5 to 2011 (yes, really)

Recommended Posts

Hello.

New to this post, we are upgrading our machines from older iMacs to new iMacs and along with it to Snow Leopard.

We currently use VW 11.5 (old yes, but reliable).

We are purchasing VW 2011 and are worried that the older 11.5 mcd files that we have (and will continue to use for resource - symbols hatches etc) will not be recognised by the newer 2011?

Any comments?

Thanks in advance....

I experience once in a while Problems with geometry that is made with Versions

before VW 2009.

Some of the geometry created with older Versions is not compatible with the Parasolid engine and got imported as Blocks. :-(

Most of them could be recovered by first opening and resaving the Files in 2008, and then opening them in 2009. That brought the geometry back, even if the Transfer from pre VW2008 to VW2010 Failed.

In general there is a good chance, that most of your work will be fine.

Check with the Trial Version.

I've had no problems converting older files with symbols, hatches etc. in them. For normal 2D and 3D work you will be fine.

After the switch to Parasolids a few users have had some problems with complex 3D geometry conversions, so if you have any of those check them carefully after you have done your conversion.

The switch to Cinema 4D for rendering has meant some textures have not converted well. Once again after doing your conversion check carefully for these and make appropriate texture edits or texture replacements.

Will I have to export all my older drawings as dwg?

Cheers

Definately no.

Like Mike states, Problems are just caused by complex geometry.

But for the Files you have Probems with, this is a a possible Solution.

And even the Files with incompatible geometry will open!

It is just the problemtic geometry that is lost.

I'm really cuirous how your experience is with the new workflow.

You are making a huge Step. Must be like cooking a foreign kitchen :-).

Have fun.
