Inserting Doors with Data Bar

When I want to add a door in a wall at a specific distance from a corner or other object, how do I do this? I thought I could just hit Tab and the data bar would have a place to just enter the distance from where my cursor is, no?

Once a door or window or other plug-in object (PIO) is inserted into a wall there are a couple (perhaps more) ways to move it. You can use the "Position" button in the Object Info Palette (OIP), or you can drag it to the desired location. [if you use the dragging method be careful not to accidentally remove the PIO from the wall. You can disable the 'wall insertion mode' to prevent this.]

In 12.5 I remember when adding a door, I could select the door tool, then move my cursor to a corner of the wall. Then I Tabbed the data bar where, I think it was Length, would reset to 0", allowing me to enter a distance from that corner. I can't seem to do this in 2008.

You can also use Offset Insertion Mode in either 12.5 or 2008. Just click the button to the right of the Standard Insertion Mode button on the door toolbar. Then you click on the corner that you want to reference, click along the wall that you want the door in, then enter your offset distance in the dialog box that pops up.

The same option is available when inserting windows.

That's what I thought, but when I did that it put windows on either side of the door. I guess I need to check the door settings. I'll try this a again.
