IanH
I left VW 2008 for a while and when I returned, Vista (Ultimate) had gone to sleep. When I resumed, VW said that no Dongle was attached and, after giving me the option to save my work, exited. Is this an issue with VW and the Dongle or is there a setting in Vista that I need to apply to the USB dongle to control its behaviour when in sleep mode ? Quote Link to comment
Dieter @ DWorks
I did not had that problem, but encountered other problems with Vista Ultimate. When I return after a while, I notice that not all programs work like they should be. Mostly it's the graphics that aren't right. So I just shut my pc down when I go. Quote Link to comment
Ozzie
I set up Vista so that it works my way rather than its - why do you want it to sleep? Quote Link to comment
Guest
When the computer goes to sleep, so do the drives. When a drive goes to sleep, the communication between the drive and the dongle is lost. If you want to put your computer to sleep, you'll need to first close VW to ensure work is not lost. Petri
Not on the Mac... I just restarted my machine for the first time in a month or so. In the jungle, the mighty jungle The Tiger sleeps tonight Ixesha lifikile Lala Lala kahle Quote Link to comment
Guest
Putting the mac to sleep does the same thing, unless you have a sleep setting that does not put drives to sleep. Quote Link to comment
Petri
Not so. My disc definitely goes to sleep, but in the dongle the lights shine brightly immediately when we wake up. Quote Link to comment
Guest
Hmm - are you using the energy saver? Quote Link to comment
Petri
No. I'm using a Mac - and that does not refer to a hamburger nor to Penny Lane. The Tiger, however, goes to sleep when the Energy Saver tells it to and wakes up, ready to hunt, when I click the Mouse. EDIT My FireWire discs also are at my beck and call immediately when the Tiger wakes up. Edited November 18, 2007 by Petri Quote Link to comment
Guest
I would expect other peripherals to work as expected because they have a bi-directional communication. In other words, when communication is lost, they know to go ask for connectivity again. The dongle does not work that way. It works on a uni-directional communication and only when an application, like VW, prompts the OS to communicate with the driver. If the device is disconnected, which theoretically a sleep would do, the only way to reconnect the device is through an ask by the OS - in this case, a launch of VW. Well, I guess that's great you have gotten yours to work that way. Quote Link to comment
Petri
It is, isn't it! Hey, all I needed to do is to buy a Mac. You should try one at least once. Quote Link to comment
Guest
I have .. about 8 times over now. I've been using a Mac since Apple IIi and it was a Commadore 64 before that. Quote Link to comment
jbrhwy
I don't know if this sheds any light on the subject but my HighRoad dongle (HASP4 USB 1.30: Version:1.00) does not require a relaunch of HighRoad to awake from a hard drive sleep. Quote Link to comment
