Flexible, curvy, squishy batt insulation detailing

Sure would be nice if the Batt Insulation Tool could automagically draw insulation like this, with the only requirement from us being to define a boundary polyline and adjust a slider or two to get get the folds and orientation just right.

 

Does anyone have any nice technique for drawing insulation like this with existing tools? Ungroup and stretch the Batt Insulation objects is the one I know.

 

P.S. I'd also like to be able to control the attributes of the Fill independently of the Pen.

I'd add to this, the ability to have solids that I've defined as being made of batt insulation, appear in section with a "hatch" that automatically draws the wavy line between the relevant surfaces, but this is probably asking too much, seeing as we can't even get the X's drawn automatically in sectioned timber structural members!

 

(As an aside, and this will be country-specific, but I'm asking from the UK, I'd be interested in views on what the conventions are/should be, for drawing rigid and squashy-batt insulation in section. Because it's quite tempting to avoid the above issue by just using the more continental-style, double crosshatch type fill for any type of insulation. At the moment I tend to use that for rigid boards, and only use the wavy-line method when it's mineral wool or similar.)

That's how we do it. But we've also dabbled in a yellow fill peppered with little dots. And also just a yellow fill, depending on scale.
