Innacuruate Unfold Surface

Hello,

 

I am making an archway with a compound curve and want to flatten out the surface to prepare for CnC.

 

At it's widest point, the very top, the arch is 1' 5.8" thick. I convert the model into a NURBS curve. I select the inner surface and when unfolded, the widest part is now 1' 6.01" thick. The bottoms of the arch remain correct, but it seems that it gains .02" from the start to the middle of the surface.

 

Is there a trick to unfolding that I'm not aware of? I've attached a file that has the model and the unfolded surface.

Unfold in VW does not support Compound Curves.

I should note that this individual surface does not have a compound curve.

I think the slope on the back still makes the shape too complicated for the VW unfold tool.

 

With a simple extruded arc converted to NURBS it unfolds properly.

 

The VW unfolded is not very sophisticated.

 

Even if I rotate your shape so the back is vertical (and the "ends" are sloped) I still get the same changes you report.

Gotcha, so it's just the tool itself is janky. Understood. Thank you!

I double-checked it with TouchCAD and it is indeed incorrect. I suspect that what happens is that the unfolder does not place the folding lines correctly, generating a slight compound shape where the shape is not really a compound shape at all. The red lines are my reference unfolds.
