Sameyers
Is it possible to use an architect's Revit file as a background for construction documents? We are a landscape design firm attempting to collaborate with architects using Revit. But in my testing, no matter how we import or reference their Revit model, I can't create a typical plan where the doors on the buildings are represented with the typical door swings. Is it just the case that we will have to import or link CAD exports of the building to create construction documents? Just curious how other are approaching this. Quote Link to comment

Yes, but you probably won't like the results (see attached image) Just ask for the .dwg and you will have a nice plan representation to use as you need. Quote Link to comment
Phillip Tripp
And if you make friends with the BIM manager sending the revit DWGs, they should be able to save custom settings for future exports specific to your needs. For instance, if they have tagged all exterior walls, windows, and doors, they can have a custom export showing a really nice footprint only with no additional edits needed on the receiving end. 1 Quote Link to comment
Sameyers
In general, do others manage to effortlessly link Revit models? In reality on a typical project the Revit model's fidelity is controlled on the Revit side with scope boxes, view filters, worksets, phasing, design options, etc. Making the model a mess on import. Plus, commercial models are comprised of many links which can total GBs of data. In the demo videos they use the relatively clean prototype model which is a curated finished product, not a messy project in flight. Quote Link to comment
