Mike_M
Essentially using solid subtraction as a cutting tool? For example say I have two 2x4's on the same plane. One crosses the other at a 45 degree angle. I want to keep the one "side" of the 2x4 on the 45 but not the other side. I've been using solid subtraction as a quick way to section things. However the "waste" side remains and both new pieces are one solid subtraction. Is there a way to cause them to separate? so I can just delete the "section" I don't want? Perhaps there is a better way to do this in general? Quote Link to comment

zoomer
Does that work ? If a Solid Subtraction accidentally left something behind, I usually tried to boolean the rest away with a dummy geometry. Microstation (also Parasolid Modeling core) never allowed independent Volumes as a single Solid and just separated them in independent Solids. Autocad(?)/Bricscad allows Solids (say a Wall separated by other Objects) and has no problems with it. And they have a Tool to separate those Solids containing independent Solids - if wanted ... I did not mention in my original questions that I was looking for a solution regarding extrudes. I had not thought to try the split tool on 3D objects. Worked just fine. Quote Link to comment
