Vworks to DWG changing my geometry.....

MacDaddyCK

Question

Hi All,Magicians Box Monitor.dwg

Why is it that when I export shapes into DWG, All of my arcs become segmented.  I am designing in Vectorworks 2023 Fundamentals and my draftsperson is using AutoCAD.  We can't communicate designs properly because when I export, I loose important information in the translation.Magicians Box Monitor.dwg

I just opened you .dwg in Vectorworks.  It looks smooth to me.  Do you have your Shaded View set to high?

What about your Vectorworks Import preferences?

Is 2D & 3D conversion resolutions set to Very High?

There does seem to be something wrong with 2023's .dwg export though.  When I export from 2023 and reimport into VWX, there are no objects in VWX but there are in AutoCAD.  Doing the same in 2021 behaves as expected.  I wonder if something is broken in 2023 with regards to 3D export.

I think the DWG export from VW is fine and the issue may be with AutoCAD optimization settings on your draftsperson's end.

  1. I opened your DWG in AutoCAD and initially it looked as per your screen cap, with segmented curves;
  2. I changed the VIEWRES variable to 2000 as suggested in THIS post;
  3. I edited this block and the screen cap below is what I saw; it is a 3d Solid, not polylines, but all of the curves look good:

Exiting out of that block and it still looks clean with smooth curves:
