Import 3D Solids doesn't work

Import Solids

Question

Hi everyone,

can someone help me with importing walls and roofs and other solid objects from AutoCad or ArchiCad ino VW? I've tried all available file formats and the file is automatically turned into 3D-polygons and therefore is huge and impossible to work with. The original file is a .pln and exportet from Archicad to .dwg or .dxf to AutoCad works just fine. Unfortunately i only have VW 2015...

Help is much appreciated!

If a DWG contains proper Solids,

these usually import fine into VW.

Sometimes also IFC will bring in most Solids.

I am not sure if Archicad itself uses real Solids,

maybe some custom geometry like VW Stairs or pre VW 2022 (?) Walls.

AFAIK I also had problems to get Solids into VW from Archicad clients,

but that was some years ago.

So i think the problem starts with Archicad's Export

Thanks Zoomer, for looking into this! Unfortunately it's not an issue with the export- when i open it with autoCad, its fine, but only with VW it crashes into 3D polys. I've had this problem with every .dwg import and was never able to get objects or solids...

Hmmh, my Bricscad's Solids coming in fine by DWG.

I think from Microstation too.

I should try in VW 2023.

EDIT :

Ah, you are on VW 2015 ....

But AFAIR, I also can't remember any VW 2015 problems with DWG imports.

But VW 2015 may not be compatible with latest DWG version (?)

For me, VW imports DWGs nearly lossless.

My problem is the other way round, getting DWGs out of VW without loss.

Certain VW Solids will get translated as a bunch of loose 3DFACES into Bricscad,

or no VW Material Export and such things.
