Manually control the autogenerated overhead door dashed overhead line.

AndrewBeres

Question

I have been running into an issue with the overhead door's dashed overhead line depth matching the height of the door as set in the object parameters.

We would like to be able to manually change, via input or set up a standard offset beyond the height of the door to account for the actual depth an overhead door requires in a ceiling. We have found that an overhead door typically requires an additional 1'6"-2'0" of overhead clear space when you include the track arc and overrun. This has led to coordination issues in the field because in our drawing the door clearances work, however that is not accurate to reality.

Does anyone know how to edit the shape drawn by the plug-in object? Or can we add a parameter for 'clearance offset' to account for this discrepancy?

You can edit the 2D Component + reshape the dashed rectangle to the size you want. But you will lose parametric control of that 2D element in the process so this is only going to be useful if you have a limited number of doors of set widths + are happy creating styles for each.

Find your overhead door style in the Resource Manager + duplicate it. Give it a name that references its width. Set the width by style. Right-click on the resource + select 'Edit 2D Components'. Resize the Ceiling-Overhead Rectangle to what it needs to be. Repeat process for the other sizes of doors you need. Now you will have a set of different width overhead door symbols you can draw on (you can control the heights parametrically but if you were to change the width the jambs would update but the dashed rectangle wouldn't because it's a user-provided component).

Note: it seems you need to insert them using the Symbol Insertion Tool rather than the Door Tool otherwise the user-provided 2D component won't display.

Not sure if this helps. Perhaps post a Wishlist item for the overhead line to be parametrically-controlled.
