I have noticed that when I crop a Site Model I am getting holes in the skirt: They aren't always obvious to see + I'm not even sure how clear the screenshot is: the red rectangles are marking the holes. Basically bits of the skirt are missing + you can see inside the hollow mesh. Not nice. I exported the site model back to VW2022 + it's not happening there. I have no idea whether it's been happening since day one with VW2023 or whether it's a SP4 thing. Bit annoying...

I'm trying out the new Import USD file format functionality in Vw2023 SP4, and I cannot get USDZ files to import with any textures. I've tried with three free sample 3D people models that I found online, none of them create any textures even though I select those options in the Import dialogue. One of the sample files that I tried is attached to this post, (I had to ZIP if first because USDZ files are not allowed to be attached to the forum). Vw2023 SP4 Import options: And here's what it looks like in Vw2023. All I get is a white figure and no RW textures have been created in the Resource Manager. When I view the file online at https://www.usdz-viewer.net the file is fully textured. When I view the file with Apple Preview the files is fully textured. Additionally, drag and drop does not work for importing USDZ files: It gives a 'Format not supported' error message. And the figures import at some strange scale as they are about 9'-8" tall. I'm not sure what number to put into the 'Re-scale Units per Meter' option. Dennis_Posed_004_-_Male_Standing_Business_Model.usdz.zip 1331823858_Dennis_Posed_004_-_Male_Standing_Business_Model2023.vwx

Import / Export USD - not in Plugins Folder (Vw2023 SP4)
rDesign posted a question in Troubleshooting
I'm using Vw2023 SP4 on macOS Big Sur 11.7.5, and I am unable to Import or Export USD files. Using the default Architect-BIM workspace, on my File -> Import menu it says 'ImportUSD not in Plugins Folder.', and on my File -> Export menu it says 'USDExporterMenu not in Plugins Folder.' (see screen caps below) In the Workspace Editor, on the Menu tab, under 'Import/Export' I do not see anything that has USD in their name. In the Vectorworks 2023 Application Plugins folder, there are two files named 'USDImporter.vwlibrary' and 'USDExporter.vwlibrary'. I have also repaired my Vw installation with the Vw2023 Updater application. Any suggestions? Is the ability to Import / Export USD a Window-only function? I also filed a support request for this last week (case number: 00292627). The Tech support's initial reply was that I may need to reset my User Preferences, so I reset my User Preferences. But it did not work and I emailed them back saying that it didn't work -- I haven't gotten any further response. -
I am trying to create a graphic legend, using a few simple 2D symbols, to which very simple 2-field Record Formats have been applied. When I go to edit the Cell Layout for the Graphic Legend and create a "dynamic text" item, when I select the symbol's Record Type & Field and try to create a dynamic text component as part of the Graphic Legend cell layout, the Graphic Legend appears to simply ignore the item entirely. It doesn't show up at all in the layout, even as an empty place-holder. When I change the data source for the dynamic text item to be an Object Function (such as "Area"), then everything works fine. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong? Note that the Cell Layout is identical in both examples. Here's the PROPERLY WORKING example: And here is the NON-WORKING example:

Editing Space Style - Unable to 'Import 3d Boundaries Settings'
rDesign posted a question in Troubleshooting
Using Space Styles in Vw2023 SP3. I go to edit a Space Style from the RM and on the 3D Boundaries tab, clicking on the 'Import 3d Boundaries Settings...' button doesn't seem to do anything. Seems like it should bring up a dialogue box allowing you to import settings from another style. The help text says that it should allow you to 'Replace all parameter values within the active pane with values from another style'. But I click on the button and nothing happens. I have multiple Space Styles in this file. Thanks. Screen Recording 2023-03-04 at 11.45.11 AM.mov -
My Select Similar tool no longer selects anything, even though I have all of the options selected it gives me this error message: I made a simple test file with three Lines all in the None class, and the Select Similar tool will not select anything. I tried both of the modes for the tool (Select Any / Current Selection), doesn't make a difference. Please see the attached video. Steps taken to try and repair: I ran Tools -> Utilities -> Reset all Plug-ins, then I restarted my computer: Not fixed. Then I ran Vw 2023 Updater Repair, then restarted my computer again: Still not fixed. Ran Tools -> Utilities -> Reset all Plug-ins again: Still not fixed. I guess my next step is to completely uninstall Vw 2023 and reinstall? I think my Vw installation is cursed, I seem to be having a lot of troubles... wheres the magic.mov

It seems like Light objects outside the Clip Cube bounding box should not appear when the Clip Cube is turned on. In the attached screen shot, the Light objects are placed inside 2D/3D Symbols, the 3D geometry of the fixtures do not appear. Preference for 'Display Light Objects' is set to Always Appear. Is this working as designed? Thanks.

Textures appear black in Shaded View during Orbit (Vw2023 SP3)
rDesign posted a question in Troubleshooting
When orbiting around a model in Shaded view on my Design Layer, the components of some of my walls are switching from their correct concrete texture to black. It happens in both perspective and orthogonal 3d views. The concrete foundation walls shown are all the same wall type, but only some of the walls show this behavior. It also happens one some Slabs that have the same texture. 136516257_2023sp3perspectiveblacktextures.mov 1757163616_2023sp3orthoblacktextures.mov -
I just installed Vw2023 SP2, and on a file that looked correct in SP1 -- I am now seeing lines between coplanar objects in all of my SLVP. These wall objects are perfectly coplanar, and these lines did not show up in SP1. No other changes to the file or SLVP other than opening it up in SP2 and updating the out-of-date viewport. One step forward... two steps back...

Hi all, Would it be possible for any Masters in VW to help me with this, please? I have a brick texture to which I have also attached a hatch line to work on hidden line, In walls is working fine but when I apply this texture to a column it turns the Hatch vertically but the texture is horizontal as it should. Is there a way to turn the hatch to the correct position without creating a new texture to edit the hatch alone? See attached pictures for reference,

Please allow Stories and Levels to be imported into a new file. When confronted with a file that gets corrupted and refuses to open without crashing Vw, the suggested method to try and recover the file is to use the Layer Import trick (outlined in THIS thread). The problem with this method is that Stories and Levels are NOT imported; Any object that was either bound to a Level or a Story is broken as they do not exist in the new file. You end up with a bunch of objects in the OIP saying Top / Bottom Bound "doesn't exist". Stair objects refuse to be created. If the file is so corrupted that you are unable to open the file, you cannot see how the Stories and Levels were constructed. Which leaves you with a new file that is better than having to completely starting over, but not ideal.

Has anyone tried to import a file into 2023 where they have been using spaces? I am testing out 2023 before rolling it out to the office and noticed a potential serious bug. Any file imported into 2023 with spaces (styled or otherwise) splits the space into a Data Tag and a space, however the space itself is no longer editable, although it seems to be locked to the data tag and the data tag itself is all but useless. Have tried with numerous files and all have the problem. Just asking the question before submitting a bug report.
