  1. Thanks Tim, that was the Tutorial I couldn't find. I was michaelk who made it. I used this way to create the Drape above.
  2. @bcd: I did some scetions. The Ramp surface is perfectly planar, with the curved Wall method and the cutting Plane. @df In a 3d View, you can doubleclick the wall and pull the upper Handle on one end down to the lower.
  3. One of the Masterbrains in the Forum posted a while ago wonderfull Tutorial about that topic. I just cant't find the Post nor do I remember who the Hero was. I'm shure there will be members with better memory and one will post the Name The Solution was a Birail Loft
  4. Where does the inaccuracy come from. I produced the cutting Plane exactly how you discribe as a sweep. So, as far as I see it must work up to 360?.
  5. I think the Coolest solution for that is the Curved Wall. Good to see, that at least NVW Employees know how to use the Software. :-) (and sometimes tell us!) Thanks Frank. While Playing with that Solution (tried to get a Solid) I dicovered, that one can convert a Wall and also a Sweep directly to to Nurbs Surfaces with the 3d POWERPACK. Cool! Has this always been the Case? I've also tried to Convert to Group: Useless result! (a bazillion of Polygons!)
  6. VW 2011 even SP1 is still Beta Niveau compared to other Software for Professional use. Since VW10 I've always upgraded as soon as the new Version was available. But now my first tryouts with 2011 were disillusioning.
  7. The Way it worked was cutting an extrude with a sweeped Line I also tried to project a the Ramp Profile up to the Sweep, but VW 2011 either refused to select the objects or crashed.....
  8. Definately no. Like Mike states, Problems are just caused by complex geometry. But for the Files you have Probems with, this is a a possible Solution. And even the Files with incompatible geometry will open! It is just the problemtic geometry that is lost. I'm really cuirous how your experience is with the new workflow. You are making a huge Step. Must be like cooking a foreign kitchen :-). Have fun.
  9. The VW Plugin in C4d is not 64Bit. I've had problems with this also, and needed to set C4d11 to 32Bit operation. I don't remember it it was like you discribe, but it was something serious because I had to contact the Maxon support to get the solution above. If you still have trouble after setting C4d to 32 Bit, it could be that the VW2010 export Plugin is not 100% compatible wiht the C4d 11 import plugin. The VW 2010 Plugin is exporting for C4D 11.5. I don't know if a VW 2010 Export will import propperly in C4d11. regards Horst M.
  10. I experience once in a while Problems with geometry that is made with Versions before VW 2009. Some of the geometry created with older Versions is not compatible with the Parasolid engine and got imported as Blocks. :-( Most of them could be recovered by first opening and resaving the Files in 2008, and then opening them in 2009. That brought the geometry back, even if the Transfer from pre VW2008 to VW2010 Failed. In general there is a good chance, that most of your work will be fine. Check with the Trial Version.
  11. Hi Dave. Thanks so much for your answer. I was just shocked by what I saw last night. Regarding the Scaling issue, I would suggest to solve the Probelem as it is done with the Maxon plugin. You can give a Scale for the import the VW File in the Preferences of C4D. So you can even work in Meters and do the sacling during the import to C4D As long as you don't do so, you will either have the Imperial world unhappy or the Meters users will be whining. For Symbols Maxon creates an extra hidden Group "Symbols", and then they just use instances with whatever needed angle position and height. What also is a must, tis the possibiltiy to update the geometry from VW to C4D during the work, . For example if you change walls windows Staiers and so on. Desinging is an interactiv process. The maxon Plugin supports that! And Please give us the Export of Camera Objects! If You like I could Post you a Sample File. But to be honest, I hope you know already what the Maxon Plugin does... ;-)
  12. I tried the new Export to C4d with Vw 2011. Extremely dissapointing! The First impression looks good, but after I examined the resulting File for a while in C4d I found it almost unusable. Example: Symbols dont get exported well. For 327 Chairs I got 327 Groups 250 contain Instances the Rest of the Chairs get transformed to Groups with with Subgroups and subgroups and Subgroups.... Textures are assigned to the Each ploygon deep down there, and not to the Groups, so if you want to change textures you have to digg deep down into the Group trees that the Software creates for whatever reason. And there are hundreds of Groups and subgroups and subgr..... The new easygoing sensational relation is no yet reality. The resulting File of the Nemetschek Plugin is 41MB. The resulting File of the Maxon Plugin is just 8.5 MB for the same Model.
  13. it was by the way stunning, to dicover how much this feature has become a Column of my daily Workflow...
  14. Juhu. Reset, and redoing the settings brought the automatic aquireing back. Problem solved. Thanks. ...nevertheless weird
  15. They are set. The same settings on the Mac Pro work fine... (I compared all SmartCursor Settings on both machines) The settings also worked on the MacBook Pro since a couple of days ago. I tried even reebooting, and making a new blank File weird....
  16. Hallo, I have Problems to automatic aquire Smart Points/edges by stopping a given time on a Snap point in VW2010 on my Macbook Pro. The feature is set on, and the time the mouse has to stop is set to 2sec. but the point(s) don't get aquired. I have to press "T" or "G" to aquire the points manually. Also in the Preferences everything seems to be set correctly. Any Idea what's wrong?
  17. As I dicovered, that the numeric kepad isn't anymore a feature of the MacBook Pro. I found a little app called "Numberkey" that brings the Numeric Keys to the Iphone conected by Airport.
  18. Wow, this would be a really cool Feature for presentations but hey, as VW Users we can export Models as Quicktime VR! .... a Format, that is not longer supported by the inventor of it.....
  19. I've recently had awfull trouble migrating Symbol Files from VW2008 to VW2010. Some Solids got destroyed. Most of them could be recovered by first open and save the Files im VW2009 and then open these in VW2010. But some of my the 3d Elements just became "uncomputable"..... Sometimes I need more time working on the Sofware than with it. Still scared about upgrading to 2011. many of the new Supertools seem to be implemented like the Space navigator Support.... @monkey: Could be a memory issue, you have just 2GB of RAM. VW with big textures / Images needs a lot of RAM. You don't always get a Message, sometimes there is just a Part of the image missing or black. I guess it should be 2GB of RAM for each Prozessor.
  20. Hi, I guess you get the o so much beloved "hybrid objects can't ...." Message. This is because VW Symbols and PIO's have a 2d and a 3d Conponent. It is decided to allow the Rotation of these hybrid Objects just arround the Z Axis, which reduces the usability of these Objects. For Furniture and so on it might be OK, but for Lighting Fixtures, Trusses, and Beamers its just annoying. For the Circular Truss PIO you can switch of this Misbehaviour in the OI-Palette. But only for this...... The Solution for all other Hybrid Symbols and PIO's is: - select the PIO/Symbol - switch to a 3d View - hit Cmd and K (converts the Objekt/Symbol to a Group and gets rid of all that nice parametric features of your PIO's) - Create a 3d Symbol if you need that thing more than once - Rotate the resulting "3d- only Symbol" or Group as you need Skoll
  21. VW 2009 exports down to Version 10. If you like I can convert it for you, ....if the File is in a transportable size. I've a Powerbook Titanum arround with Version 12. I've recently just for fun started V12. I almost couldn't operate the Porgramm. The workflow of VW has (mercifully) seriously changed since that time!
  22. Hi Will I've recently experienced the same Problem with VW2010, and found that after I got the "lack of memory" Message the Filesize of my Projekt was exploded from 58 to 120MB. Do you see this also?
  23. If it is really the Case, that VW2011 is slower or unstable with Files from older Versions, the usability of the Software is down to Shareware level. All People who use Spotlight for shure work with old Files all the time! I use the Files from Venues I've worked in before to create new Lightplots all the time. Some of my Venue Files are migrated from Version 11 to now. I've never heard such a Concept, of not using a Software to work on Files from older Versions in my live before! What if a Collegue who works with an older Version sents me a File? Shall I ask for pdf's and redraw from scratch? In the End that would mean that VW is incompatible to itslef! A Software behaving like that is not ..... ....I'm out of words....
  24. Thanks Vincent, The tipp with the human was great. My problem was that I couldn't Edit the Section Line Viewports Preferences, because the programm was "terminated" as described above, before the Section Line Vieports OIP came up. I got it done, after I first did the Section line Viewport with all the Clases that contain complex geometry switched of. Then I edited the SLVP's Preferences... When I have all the Lights in the Rigg and an on the Floor switched on, the Programm still crashes, even with the Humans switched of, and the 3d res,. set to Low. I have to live with the Sideview in Wirframe. Not nice, but it has do the job, as it still shows what I need to communicate,
