  1. I couldn't export 3DS. So I used the C4D plug in. Doesn't solve all problem since some special features (very local 3Dpoly) do not export. Thought 3DS export would solve the problem for those as a add on to the VW/C4D pulg in.. But 3Ds do not seem very powerfull. I also have huge file as Bob. I manage to export some bits by exporting the building level after levet..; a bit time consuming...
  2. when I arrived at the office yesterday. I turned on the computer and launched VW12... just as usual. The VW12 window appeared but instead of opening a new drawing I have a windows from XP saying "Vectorworks encountered a problem and need to close" then I'm supposed to send a report to microsoft... No other soft seem to have problem. I just cannot use VW12. VW11.5 still works. but since then it has been impossible to launch VW12... Any clues? I run VW12 on windowsXP with a P4 3.6GHZ and 2Giga Ram...
  3. Tried using the callout tool with windows. had some crashes problems. Gave up the callout tool at the same time as the window PIO.
  4. Hi Bruce, Thank you for checking this for me. I've tried your way. It works. Best Li Mei
  5. THANKS. Convert to group works fine. Great.
  6. Thanks Peter. I'd try annotation. Some people here change the scale of the SPVs is ther a way so that the annotation can follow? Best
  7. but how do you convert them to 2D so to continue drawing on them in 2d for further detailing? "convert copy to line" or "convert copy to polygone" doesn't work. I thought it would.
  8. Anout SVPs. I'm trying to convert a section VP in 2D so to use it as a base for a presentation section view. I select the SVP and use "convert copy to line". The result is not as expected... Too many lines... can't read it. I've also tried "convert copy to polygone".. not much better, no line are hidden. I use to do that with elevation and it would ask me how I wanted to render it. Is there a way to do this with SVPs? Thanks
  9. Hi Peter, Meantime, this is possible : unstyle the selected walls first, then they can be change alltogether to another class, then you have to change them back to styled wall...
  10. you cannot change several walls to 'none' class at once. You have to unstyle them first, then only they will accept to be change alltogether to another class, then you have to change them back to styled wall... ###!!!###
  11. I've tried to solve the problem by using the old script which would set the selected object to the active layer : PROCEDURE SetObjectClass; VAR h : HANDLE; BEGIN { get a handle to the first selected object on the active layer} h:= FSActLayer; { set the class of the object to the active class } SetClass(h,ActiveClass); END; Run(SetObjectClass); IT JUST DO NOT WORK ANYMORE !!!!
  12. Has anyone tried this? In my computer it looks like another bug : If I select more then 1 wall and try to change their class. It just doesn't work? I can change their class one by one but not many walls at the same time... If someone has experimented this and found a workaround, any help is welcome. Thanks.
  13. Hi Robert, our way of doing meantime is to create manual symbol (2/3D with the PIO as a help at start) and to attach it a record. It's a bit of work but ok. It'll do till maintenance. Thank you for your answer.
  14. Hi Robert, 1. by "making your window unit as symbol" : you mean first creating a window object and then creating from that object a symbol (let's call it W01)? If that's what you mean, that's what I've done (see my point 2B above in my reply to Travis). 2. Then you do another window object and you enable the "use symbol geometry" option and choose W01 as symbol; If that's correct. that's also what I did. Once this done, you indeed have a window which LOOKS LIKE the W01 symbol. There are however a few problems that makes the tool NON USABLE: A. W01 has a width of 200 (pay close attention to the image i've put under 2B., you'll see the width and height of the window), if you use it as an "enabled symbol" within the window object, its width is record as 76,2 although it is drawn 200 width and LOOk AS IF it is 200 width. This is VERY annoying in schedule as you do not notice the problem at first.(look closely at the image under 2D. you'll see the overall width indicate as 76,2; obviously, the windows is drawn as a much larger window). B. if you edit the symbol W01 (not the window object that uses it as enabled symbol-let's call it WPIO), the change inf the symbol W01 DOES NOT reflect in WPIO unless you check and uncheck the "enable symbol" option. this makes the "enable symbol" option USELESS as there is no point to use a symbol if for updating it you need to go and uncheck then recheck the option in 300 different windows... If you can tell me what i've done wrong i'd be so happy to find a solution; we've been working on this the whole week and whatever we tried did'nt work. MY CONCLUSION IS : I think it is a bug. I've sent e-mails and file to techsupport and haven't receive an answer so far. hope they can find a solution. Thanks any way for your advise. best
  15. Hi Bruce, Did you have a chance to check my way of doing? Meantime, i've done some checking on my side. I experiment something htat you might find quite interesting : I did it on several computers under different configuration the result was the same : It DOES reference a symbol from another file if that file is on the local Harddrive. It DOES NOT reference that symbol if that very same file is saved on a HDD of the server on the network... Isn't this special? what do you think?
  16. quote: Originally posted by Robert Anderson: Can someone in this discussion send me an example of the "huge frames" problem? Does it occur only in round walls? Does it occur in Imperial as well as Metric units? Robert, yes it occurs also in Metric units. If still usefull I can send a file. unchecking the trims seems to make it disappear. i've tried once or twice but haven't enquired further...
  17. Windows seem to have HUGE problems. Not only this HUGE frame. it doesn't control the symbols properly, it can not be tagged properly...etc.. i've send lot of question to tech support, sent a few files tooo. but haven't received answers yet... not expecting so much anymore after a while. I've discovered that question receiving no answers have no answers... No point emphasizing. When I'm in bad mood I 've got this pulsion to send a topic called "Are we beta testing???". Then, well... To be constructive and because we currently have lost a whole week just trying to find a way to use the windows and trying to find workarounds... I just decided to STOP. We've got 15 windows in each projects, repeated each about 15 times. We're going to draw 15 symbols entirely manualy, 2D and 3D and attach record to each so to be able to make schedule. we'll do it for each project... that's quite a lot of windows. yet One in the other, it'll take less time this way. And to tell the truth I don't quite have the choice... Just get rid of the problem and continue working.
  18. I'm trying to figure out : what's the use of entering a masonry module? When do you use this? thanks
  19. Hi Charlie, i created a titleblock and it worked fine. at first the fields didn't show up in the Issue Manager as I didn't put the prefix P_ for project field and S_for sheet field (it's in the manual). Once you do that it works fine. you have to reset completely the files thought (only new files will work). good luck
  20. Hi Bruce, I've just redone it in both VW11.5 and VW12 to be sure before answering you : In VW11.5 : 1. I go in >Organize>Workgroup reference. 2. I reference a file, say resources.mcd without selecting any layer 3. I browse resources.mcd, and when I import a symbol (ie windows). It is imported in my current file and it is in italics. It updates when I update the resources.mcd file. In VW12: 1. I go in >Tools>Workgroup reference 2. I reference the same file (first converted to vw12) also without selecting any layer. 3. I browser the file and select a symbol same way as above and I import it. It goes in my file but is NOT in italic and does NOT update. 4. If I try to reference the symbol directly from the browser I've got the same result. and if I redo it just to be sure I've done it correctly it says tat the file is already referenced... No italics, no updates???
  21. In VW11.5 One could workgroup reference a file and check no layers. It would then reference all the symbols of that file without creating any referenced layer. Doesn't this work anymore with VW12? I've tried but no symbols appear. If I try to put a symbol from the resource browser (after having reference the file) the symbols becomes just imported and are not in Italics and do not update. I've tried to reference the file both from the workgroup reference dialog box or from the resource browser. It does reference my file without any layer, but I cannot acces the symbols??? The only way I have found is to create a layer call e.g. LIBwindows for windows library and to put an instance of the symbol there and then to reference that layer of the file??? Is this normal? its ok for use, but I get all those additional not useful layers on top of an already very long list...
  22. In VW11.5 I could workgroup reference a file and check no layers. It would then reference all the symbols. Doesn't this work anymore with VW12? I've tried but the symbol are not in Italics and do not update. I've tried to reference the file both from the workgroup reference dialog box or from the resource browser. It does reference my file without any layer, but I cannot acces the symbols??? The only way I have found is to create a layer call LIBwindows for windows library for ex and to put an instance of the symbol there and then to reference that layer of the file??? Is this normal?
  23. ABOUT 1) : EDITING A WINDOW SYMBOL I tried my best for the editing of the window. 1. I create a window and insert it : 2. I go into the symbol, copy it and exit the symbol without further change 3. I paste the window in my wall and edit it there, change the dimension from 80x200 to 150x200 : 4. I cut it (same result when I copy) and go back in the symbol and paste it. BANG!!! IT LOST ALL MY WRAPPING SETTINGS!!!. I had the same result when editing directly the symbol!!!
  24. Hi Travis, Thank you very much. I tried what you advised. ALAS!!! It didn't work for me. I start with 2) : placing an ID with the ID tool : 2A. I create a plugin => get a "window in wall" : the size of the window is 200X200 (see the overall width and height in the object info) 2B. I transform that plugin into a symbol=> get a "symbol in wall" : 2C. I use the ID tool to label that symbol : 2D. BANG!!!###!!! : the records says that the window's size is 76,2X121,9 and that's what's listed in the schedule ###!!!!???? Terribly annoying!!! 2E. By the way it is impossible to ID directly in the symbol cause then it doesn't do the wrapping...
  25. they appear when you use the tool. eg when you draw walls you've got all the default style listed. If you do not have the display default on you've got only the unstyle wall.
