The plant symbols I am using are the ones supplied in the 2d symbol folder so that is not the problem. The problem was these odd selection markers, clearly thay are something different from the norm, ie black filled versions.

Place plant symbol > from the attributes pallette apply a colour fill to the symbols, usually shades of green. I need to show the line work below, what is the best way to do this please. Thanks Note I have been trying to send the coloured plant symbols "to the back" to make the line work visible but this has no effect ? Well blow me down. I kept messing around and placed new plant symbols on the drawing and I could send them back and the line work was then visible, the ones that could not do this to had the 4 small boxes that show up when you select it with no fill, ie the ones that did work all the their boxes were solid black. Thanks Nick, and I take it you can not copy things from a viewport back into a design layer ?

When I am importing a new base layer I am having trouble getting it to "land" in the same location on the drawing so I can just turn the old base layer off and the new layer on and a third layer will match exactly. The new base layer is coming in to the side and I am having to turn the old layer off then select all of the third layer and drag it across to the new base layer, it is then hard to get it to line up exactly each time and I am sure this is not a clever way to achieve this. I am importing a Autocad DWG, when it comes in I get 2 files one as a "above the line" viewport and one in a design layer, the viewport has extra things on it like text block and title etc, whereas the design layer is without them. The file in the design layer comes in as a symbol which I have to turn into a group, then ungroup so I can work on it. Questions: 1. Is this spliting into 2 different files what I should be expecting in VW11 2. Should I expect all DWG I now import into VW11 to react in this way ? 3. I am getting 2 files because the originator has saved a design layer "and" a different viewport layer ? 4. This never happened in VW10 is this because VW10 never supported viewports, so even though my originator may have sent a design layer and a viewport layer VW1O would never have been able to display them ? What is the safest and best way to slide in a modified base plan to an existing drawing ? Just import it as a new design layer?

I had a vw10 drawing that I converted to 11, all looked fine and the plants were intact. I have then copied hundreds the plants in the vw11 drawing and pasted them into another vw 11 drawing but only the tags and the small x in the middle of the symbol shows up. I know the plant symbol is made up of 2 parts and I have made sure both the none class and the class the plants are in are turned on in both drawings. What have I done wrong please ? I can copy and paste all the plants in the same drawing OK but when I try to paste them in the new VW11 drawing no symbols appear. Thanks Paul. A question, when you run the update and it asks which version you want updated, is it the original VW 11.0.1 or is it VW 11.5.exe that needs to be updated ?

I have similar problems : I am getting "NO MEMORY" and the drawing is closing down, this is happening regularly. Watching the task manager when VW is running the PF (page file) usage meter continually creeps up to as high as 1.6MG ! and when it is around this high the drawing crashes with a message "NO MEMORY" I have watched the meter with numerous other applications running and it never gets above 600mg I have all other applications closed. Questions : 1.I am not doing anything wrong but worksheets will not scale inside a drawing in VW11 nornally is that correct ? 2. I have not worked with viewports yet, is this the only method to scale worksheets Jonathan?

I am changing the scale from 1:100 to 1:500, I have "scale all layers and text checked" and the drawing changes scale fine except the worksheet does not, it remains at the larger 1:100 size ? What is the trick please?

Why is next to nothing straight forward with CAD I know I am no expert but Loaded on the free program and printed to PDF995 and nothing happened it just hung. Thanks Mike I will start there. As an aside is there a basic reason why there is not a simple choice in the export function to "export as a PDF" like there is for DWG ?
