  1. EJ; I do the same, but I believe this person wants to have the date printed on the drawing.
  2. Go to Vectordepot.com and get the plug-in. I don't recall the name. It will print the file name and time of printing. Welcome to the Board.
  3. EJ, this is amazing work. My question is how long did it take you to make this? It would help me understand how complex an operation this process is.
  4. I hope NNA takes this seriously and comes up with a solution. Having work disappear is simply unacceptable.

  6. Thanks Kurt. That is good news. I have a 455CA which is not quite as old. I am also on Tiger. As you say, it works fine. In some respects it works better than with the original HP software which is no longer supported by HP.
  7. You need to use Page Setup to establish your drawing size. Then go into VW>Page>Set Print Area. Select one page and your proper page size should be shown. In the diagram, only one box should be highlighted. If more than one box is highlighted, then try draging the box out and back into the upper left. You most likely have letter size setup now and Acrobat is dividing up your drawing into letter size pieces.
  8. I find that the speed of your computer is a factor too. The faster the computer, the faster it will respond to your comand to halt. I use command-period.
  9. Here is more info: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=22;t=000488 In this thread I say not to use HP Socket, but I have subsequently gotten it to work. LPD also works for me. I have not had sucess with IPP.
  10. You will need the IP address. You can setup any printer in the Print Center that will not work. The fact that you have a printer showing has no meaning. You need a printer setup that is set up correctly. I have a 455 on a JetDirect. I don't know if the 488 is the same, but I assume it is similar. Hold down the test button on the JetDirect until the printer prints. It will print two sheets. The second sheet has the IP address. You can use letter size sheets if you want to save paper. If you do a search for 455 on this board, you should find an explaination by me on how to set up a 455 using GimpPrint. Let me know if you need more help.
  11. For me, I am using VWA 11.5.1
  12. I have had the same thing happen, as have others. I hope NNA is working on this problem. I have submitted a file to them, but no response as to the cause of the problem. Drake, is it your saved views only, or are your viewports showing up empty?
  13. Could you give an example of the commands that you are using?
  14. In my experience, this is a matter of trial and error. There are two places to make adjustments. One is in the OIP, and the other is by clicking on the dormer selection handle. By adjusting roof pitch and thickness and adjusting the offsets from edge of main roof, you should be able to accomplish your task. I still have to use trial and error as I can never seem to remember how different dimensions affect which direction the dormer, or skylight will move on the main roof. Just plug in different values and see what happens. You can then fine-tune your positioning until the skylight or dormer is where you want it.
  15. Robert: The polygon trick is great info, thanks. As for vanishing viewports, it is not a class issue. Yes, that was my first thought. It is a bug of some sort. I have submitted a file to NNA for analysis.
  16. EJ: This is good info. I hope that you could elaborate: 1. I find that printing from PDF is the same as from VW. The slowdown is in the spooling. The "printing" or ripping on the computer takes but 10 seconds. The spooling takes many minutes 2. How does adding RAM help? I assume that RAM is a storage medium like a cars gas tank. It either fills to capacity or not. 3. This sounds promising. The connection between the JetDirect print server and the printer is a parallel cable. The manual says that baud rate setting apply to serial and not parallel cables. 4. I am not sure that this is an option. The printer is over seven years old. Plus this would bypass the JetDirect box. Is the JetDirect not necessary? Thanks in advance for your expert assistance. Your imput is always appreciated.

I assume that the printer memory receives and stores the information from the computer. It seems to me that insufficient memory would result in print failure or an incomplete print. If more memory would speed this up, I would do it in a heartbeat. It just does not make sense to me that more memory would speed things up. I would love to hear more on this subject
  18. Thanks Ramon. That is encouraging. However, I am reluctant to put much effort forth in annotations. I have had viewports disappear in VW11.5. Spending hours to fine-tune a viewport if fine if it remains permanant. But opening a file to find that all that hard work has vanished is most disheartening.
  19. Robert, that all sounds great, but how do we deal with the extra lines that need to be removed from the "hidden line" view? On top of that, how do we deal with the lines that do not appear? This often happens at roofs or where roofs meet walls. I currently do a "Convert Copy to Lines", Ungroup, and then remove and add lines as needed.
  20. I have been using an HP455CA printer for over seven years. Originally it operated using the supplied HP RIP under OS9. I now use it under OS10.4 with the built-in system print driver utilizing GimpPrint. The printer has always printed slow under OSX. I recently upgraded my computer to a Dual 2.3 G5 with 2.5 GB of ram. I anticipated that the printing would be faster, but it is not. It appears that the slow printing is due to two reasons: 1. Slow spooling. The actual printing, or "ripping" takes very little time on the computer. But it takes many minutes for the information to spool. 2. The printer waits for all information to spool before printing. Under OS9, the printer would print during the spooling process. As a result the printer would print continuously, only waiting while the print dried before cutting. It would print while it was ripping. Currently it often takes 15 minutes to print one greyscale print. This is a tedious process to run any quantity of prints. So the question is, does anyone know how to speed up the spooling process? And does anyone know why the printer waits for all spooled info prior to starting to print? The printer is hooked up to a JetDirect Ex Plus which is connected by Ethernet to a Router and Switch.
  21. aquadapipa; Is the disappearing info only in viewports? Is the info intact on your design layers?
  22. I have had this happen too. It would be helpful if you could give more information. Are these drawings imported or converted from another version. What version are you using. What operating system. This will help others in helping you.
  23. I think this is a deeper problem. See this post: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/cgi/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=004058;p=1
  24. This could be a mixed blessing. I use the drawing date as a refererence and control. I do not want my drawings taking on the current date each time that I open the file or each time that I print. The date refers to what version those drawings are. I want full control over assigning a date to a file. Might I suggest that an optional field be provided for the "print date". For those who want this, they can toggle this on to reflect date of printing.
