  1. You can create 3D polys for the beams and place them appropriately into the walls and use subtract solids tool. [ 02-28-2006, 11:40 AM: Message edited by: Damon Design ]
  2. It is good to hear I'm not the only one that has found the function challenging-and intriguing at the same time. I concur it is when displaying and editing the info on the different design and sheet layers that it can be frustrating when you try to circumvent it by reverting to previously learned ways doing so. The learning by mistakes method is indeed the way I have gone through life LOL Thanks for the comments
  3. Thanks. The original doc had the classes set up (windows/doors etc...) more standardized and I have been paring it down trying to dwelve into this issue, including removing (or ignoring) 3D data. Doesn't turning off or deselecting the line weights in the view tab then invoke the default line weights-which are not working for me? Hmmm... I just installed a simple window back in the window class-but did need to turn on line weights-and have been able to decrease it down to where it looks fine-so probably did something earlier in a fit of frustration lol The model document looks great, and I like the increased editable parameters. I have never installed a display driver update (unless my trusty Mac has done that automatically somehow) so I'll investigate that. Cheers
  4. Windows are in the class "none" (simple plan drawing-just trying to figure this out) with a line weight of .05mils, every part of the window in the view settings has line weights set at .05mils, in a wall with a line weight turned to .05 mils (in case the window took that line weight) and the windows show/print as if the sash depth is solid black or a 2 3/4" inch thick (scaled) line-obviously obscuring any glazing line, and part of inside casing/sill lines are missing (obviously something I tweaked just in frustration of the awful graphical quality I'm seeing). I just want to pop in some standard windows and go in design development stage-you simply can't do it without all the line weights of any window being effectively unprintable on small scale sheets. I like the ability to tweak the parameters after the design gets further along, and will undoubtedly use that function but so far it is frustrating to say the least.
  5. I just went into the standard workspace and it is there in Dim/Notes [ 02-15-2006, 07:15 PM: Message edited by: Damon Design ]
  6. I think this is driving us all crazy- the window line weights look like big blobs on smaller paper sizes-or elements dissappear-, and it takes a inordinate amount of time to get into the view parameters for each window element. This really needs to be addressed!
  7. The North Arrow is in the Dims/Notes tool set. Assuming you have Architect-not sure if included in basic VW
  8. Islandmon impressive work. Does the (a) tile texture create the cap on the ridge line now, or did you have to create that manually? I haven't noticed that before.
  9. New file/project, very simple two-story house, few details (a handful of windows/doors) and no textures-will not retain rendering during OpenGL fly-over. Old file/project, small but developed two-story house with details and textures translated to VW12 will render OpenGL fly-over. Copied older file, deleted everything and copied, cut and pasted new smaller file to it and now it will render. BUT I CANNOT FIND ANY DIFFERENT SETTINGS. What gives? Thanks
  10. Is there a setting in VW12 that I am missing to show a cased opening with no jamb (zero width) such as a drywall or plaster arch/opening would show on plan? Inputting "0" jamb leaves the opening with no lines @ the jamb, unlike VW11.x where the wall ends would be capped. I am defaulting to a .001" jamb width (which shows the actual jamb @ high magnification) but would prefer just to input "0" as before Thanks
  11. You have a lot of patience and stick-to-itness to finally achieve what seems like should have been a simpler set-up. I am sure I would not have had the patience-the settings will be helpful if I ever attempt something similar- Thank you for the post It does look great but the render times seem very long-you have a really powerful platform too- I don't even want to think how long it would take with my old weakling of a computer-no graphics card, slower processer etc... I think I'll wait for an Intel machine to spend much time with this.
  12. Thanks for the reply Rich. I think I need to give it a chance and play around with it a bit more. Maybe get a pared down template that works for my small residential projects. Although I've been here since Minicad, it is all self taught and most of that time has been on and off and frankly farting around. It is only in the last couple of years I have been actually using the program for a small design business I have started up. Every day I learn more about the capabilities of VW and strive to make it work best for me. It is great to have this forum and not be mocked too much for seemingly obvious questions (especially with my fairly low member #) Great project portfolio BTW. You guys have a great design aesthetic. I am just plugging along with some simple projects but am always inspired when I see very good design.
  13. This issue may be old and dead but I just need to know. I tried (again) with a happy demeanor and an open mind to set up a simple residential project just to practice with the Task Manager now that I have this fancy new VW 12 and it just seems like it is more frustration than it is worth-would it be too much to say maddening? I just seems like it sets up an innordinate amount of info and does not make it easy at all to edit. I did a search and seemed like I'm not the only one that has had problems with this. Are most of you (residential designers/architects) setting up (a) simpler template(s) of classes, layers, views and viewports that is then fairly easy to start off a new project and edit to fit or are you actually using the Task manager? Or am I just clueless with this and need to buckle down and finally learn how to use this (valuable?) tool? Maybe it is because I've been working since Minicad days and hard to change. Thanks
  14. Mike that is a great tip and as a long-time user never stumbled into that. That solves Andrew's problem perfectly. It's starting to pay off spending a little more time here each day and discovering other user's knowledge Cheers
  15. I have also missed the multi-panel option that was available in previous versions. I have saved files with those installed and imported to newer files and they imported as plug-ins. I haven't yet tried that with VW12. Why where they ever taken away? It's not like multi-panel sliders are at all rare. [ 01-10-2006, 01:45 PM: Message edited by: Damon Design ]
  16. Thanks for the quick reply Dave. Like I said I have just started to explore the new release and haven't worked with a number of different files yet. I will continue to check it out and hopefully your tests will prove true with my old machine. I am liking most of the new features very much so far. Cheers
  17. I just got V.12 and have starting playing around with it, there does seem to be some great features and improved functionality but let me hold back on my effusive praise for just a moment. The rendering times seem to be distinctly longer, very simple models (small two story house-two lights-few textures) now I have just started working in new version so want to know if I'm doing something wrong or if in fact that is what my upgrade dollars have bought me. It seems bizarre to me to have all this time-saving new functionality if it offset by waiting for rendering. Yes, I know I have an old decrepit platform but can't see upgrading until the Intel chip machines come out. Please tell me that this is not the case.
  18. I have a small house model and while attempting to create a Quick Time VR object while the model is centered in the middle of the print square in a final renderworks mode, after inputting the movie parameters the view shifts dramatically in (closer) and off to the side, so much so that the model is often not viewed while rendering many of the screen shots and then the model comes into view entirely too close. The final movie shows nothing. I have created a movie successfully before, with the model staying exactly in the same location rotating as the screen shots automatically render. The only parameters I am changing is slightly less horizontal shots (12) and starting at 70 degrees above and 0 degrees (no shots) below the model. I know this is a simple fix and I am flumexed. Mac G4 867 1G VW 11.01 Thanks
  19. I will make the cabinet 2-3" deep and when the countertop is created with void for the sink it will pop right in- you may have to create thin walls (back) with the same texture if the cabinet is on an island or cabinet is a stand alone
  20. It has to be related to the color pallete. The selections of color boxes to edit do not deselect previously chosen boxes. Multible boxes then have the "selected" marquee around them. Anybody experience something like this before?
  21. My Open GL rendering mode is doing the weirdest thing. Will only render a black screen. It will render with very pixalated/inaccurate textures during a flyover mode. Renderworks modes are unaffected. I see what looks like tiny very pixalated icons of the color pallete down in the textures!?! during a flyover and magnifying deep into the black screen. I did customize(change) one color a bit ago. I unistalled/reinstalled VW. No changes. All documents are affected. I need to work this weekend. Checking Open GL prefs and VW prefs I am baffled. Mac OS 10.2 Power PC G4 867 MHz 1064 MB VW 10.5 Industry Series Thanks for any help
  22. I have downloaded 10.5, downloaded wall fix plug-in (previously)- installed in plug-in folders. The wall tool (keyboard 9) still refuses to default to last selected parameters. Always comes up with a 4.5" thick wall with two cavity lines regardless of last wall drawn. This is very frustrating. What is going on! Mac G4 0S 10.2 VW 10.5 industry series
  23. I am looking on the board for this and can't seem to find it . I recently received version 10.1.2 and there are dozens of extra textures with odd names (GAM, Apollo, Lee, Rosco) They seem to be taking up lots of memory but don't seem to work on anything. I have seen no documentation. What are they ? I have the whole industry series. Mac G4 OSX
