  1. Thanks, Jim. Unfortunately I had already tried that to no avail. Guess I'll just have to sit tight and wait for the update. Makes me regret going to 10.9.4. Never even considered that a minor update like that would affect plotter usability. Not the best situation to be in when you have prints to ready for presentation. Guess it's time to use my local graphics place. Thanks again for looking into this for me.
  2. My HP Designjet 510 is no longer being recognized on my iMac and I'm wondering if it's related to the recent Mavericks update 10.9.4. I've tried new usb cables, switched ports, reset printing preferences and onward. Curious if anyone has had similar issues. I have read on the web others having printing issues with this update, but not pertaining to my plotter. At the "hair pulling" stage now and at a loss as to how to get prints done. If I knew it was the update I would sit tight and wait for Apple to deal with this but really, no clue. Thoughts anyone? Thanks.
  3. I have to take a moment to second that. Jim is always there with insightful advice and comments. Even better then that is his quick response to user issues, no matter how simple or complex. To cull from his experience and knowledge is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim.
  4. Sounds good and makes sense. Thanks.
  5. I'm considering purchasing a new 27" iMac and wondering about the video card upgrade Apple offers. Will the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2GB GDDR5 be more then adequate for general 3D Modeling/Renderworks (furniture and kitchens) or is the upgrade to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5 well worth the extra $150? I realize maxing out memory gets you great bang for the buck but I'm not sure about the video card. Thoughts? Suggestions? Comments? Thanks.
  6. That's it. So simple. Thank you Peter..much appreciated.
  7. Thanks but "Ungroup" doesn't seem to change anything. I've tried editing the symbol, ungrouping it, grouping it, composing, convert to polylines, etc, etc....all kinds of ways have been tried but still...I just can't extrude it. There must be some simple answer to this but.... :-( just can't figure this one out.
  8. Can someone tell me how to extrude a Copper Beech molding profile for a 3D model? Once dragged into a drawing, what's the process? It seems, whatever I try, I?m unable to extrude these so I can place them into some furniture models I'm working on. I believe one needs to ungroup, decompose or convert but just haven't found the correct way to do this. Thanks in advance for any assistance here. On 2014 Architect/Renderworks now.
  9. Same here. VW2014. Every time it opens, it asks about incoming connections. Tried the above to no avail. More an annoyance then anything else.
  10. Ahhh, got it. Misunderstood your intent...Loft Surface tool the way to go, for sure.
  11. Ride, unless I'm misunderstanding you......extrude an oval to whatever thickness you want the top to be, then extrude a circle to whatever it's height is....place the oval on the cylinder and voila, your table.....see attached drawing.
  12. In keeping with this thread.....I would like to upgrade from 2011 to 2012 but have concerns about my iMac (2.66 ghz 8GB ram, Nvidia GeForce 9400 256 MB) not being able to handle it. 2011 works fine now...rendering can be a little slow but that doesn't bother me. Does anyone have any experience with 2012 and this particular iMac? Would the video card be the main concern? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
  13. Here's the result of that process I mentioned.
  14. Think in terms of what it would take to fabricate this. The first thing you would do is cut the opening out in the top. Determine the proper opening for the sink you've selected and create a rounded rectangle accordingly. Extrude that rectangle to a couple of inches more then your top thickness. Place it on and in your top, where the sink is going and perform the "Subtract Solids" command. That should give you the top with proper opening. Then drag the sink you want in from the Resource Browser and locate it in relationship to the top opening. Maybe someone else could suggest a quicker way.
  15. Has Radiosity been removed from 2011? I'm not seeing it anywhere since updating.
  16. OK, that worked. Thanks again. For what it's worth. 1) Drag 2d Molding Symbol from Resource Browser to drawing. 2) Double click symbol to go into Edit mode. 3)"Decompose" Symbol 4)Cut/Copy Symbol 5) Leave Edit mode. 6)Paste Symbol into drawing 7) Select symbol and "Compose" 8) Select Symbol/Select Path line....."Extrude Along Path". I'm all ears if this is a long winded way to do this and there is a quicker way. Thanks, again.
  17. Thanks, Peter... I'll go through this and let you know. If you go to "Libraries", then "Objects-Building Architecture & Interior"...you'll find the file "Detail-Molding Profiles Copper Beech Millwork". I placed that in my Resource Browser for use. It's a great resource of molding profiles.
  18. I often need to take a molding profile and wrap it (extrude along path) around cabinetry or furniture. I would like to be able to pull a Copper Beech profile out of the Resource Browser and do this but I'm having issues. I know those profiles are 2D Symbols and perhaps that's the problem? I've tried converting the symbol to various forms to no avail. Can someone enlighten me to the proper sequence here? One that enables me to place and convert the Copper Beech 2D molding profile to the correct form in order to extrude along path. Thanks in advance for the help..this forum is very much appreciated.
  19. On the install disc for 2011, there's a folder, along with the installer, labeled "Packages". What exactly are these "vpkg" files? Do they get installed automatically during that procedure or are these files imported when needed? If the later, where exactly do they go? Thanks in advance for any info here.
  20. I haven't tried exporting and will give that a shot. In terms of line weights, anything from .03 to .50. What you said Ray, makes perfect sense, so I'll be curios how that goes. I'll post the results...thanks so much for your help.
  21. I'm in a situation where I need to have some files plotted at a graphic/copy business due to waiting for the arrival of a new plotter. I converted my drawing files to pdf's and gave them to this company. The drawings being produced by this process are not depicting my line weights. I double checked and my various line weights certainly appear in my files and, when I magnify up the pdf's, they are there as well but....these various thicknesses don't show up on the pdf when not magnifying up (View/Actual Size)and also don't show up on the printouts. When I take segments of these 24x36 drawings and print on my other ink jets, all line weights are depicted fine. Am I missing something here? Do I need to save to PDF in a different way? I typically File/Print/Save as PDF. Thanks for any comments.
  22. Fred, this is connected to the computer by a "USB to IEEE-1284 Bi-directional" cable from ATEN. It had been doing fine prior to the Snow Leopard upgrade. I actually just purchased the HP 510 Designjet... a year old, used only a couple of times, on Ebay. The price was hard to pass up. I'm looking forward to getting it set up and hoping it performs well....from what I've read, it should. I guess I just felt it was time to move on and upgrade.....the 330 had become very frustrating for me. Good luck with yours and thanks.
  23. Follow up #2: At best, spooling time is 9 minutes for a 2D shop drawing. At worst, goes on forever and needs to be rebooted. All in all, my conclusion is Snow Leopard/Gutenprint and this plotter, the 330 Designjet, don't get along. It is an old machine and I suppose time to consider a purchase. If anyone is in this situation, using a Designjet 330, and has better results, I'd be interested to hear from them. On another note..I'm considering purchasing an HP510 plotter. Curious to hear any comments about this one and how it prints in Snow Leopard. I see HP has drivers for this plotter and Snow Leopard so would assume it would be quick and efficient. Thanks.
  24. Follow up: I might be on to something related to this problem of mine. I disconnected the Parallel to USB cable...this goes from the Parallel to Parallel cable that is attached to the plotter, to the computer. Then reconnected it.....the next plot spooled for about 3 minutes, then printed...perfect! Since then, spooling is running about 9 minutes which is tolerable. Apparently, something is going on with the Parallel to USB cable. Although it's working now, I ordered a new one to see if this puts me back into the 3 minute spooling range. Thought this might be helpful to anyone having similar issues....thanks for listening.
