  1. Hi there... Is the 'Vertical Accent Bar' bubble style what you are looking to achieve? In the OIP, click the drop down menu next to 'Bubble Style' and choose your desired style...
  2. ...SO... No response... Does that mean that this is a BUG?
  3. Hi there... Have you tried the 'Custom Modification' tool, located in... Tools > Custom Modification... You can select the windows by adjusting the criteria, and the properties dialog will open up. Scroll down to the trim section, and make your changes there. It should work, even if you have different size/types of windows, once you don't adjust any other settings... Hope this helps...
  4. Hi there... I don't know if there is a setting, but you can do this to sort it out before you launch Vectorworks... -With VW open, and the palettes placed where and how you want to see them, quit VW. -Go to your [user folder] > Settings, and copy the 'SavedSettings.xml' file to another (easy to find) location. -Now, if you have misplaced the palettes, resized them or whatever: BEFORE LAUNCHING VW, you can copy this 'backed-up' file and replace it in your user folder. So, on launch you should have you preferred, 'saved', palette settings (and position). You can maybe make an Automation of this to ease yourself before launching VW... If I find another way to save these settings, I'll let you know. But, this method works, and you do not have to reset workspace or anything. Let us know how it goes...
  5. Hi there... Firstly, from what I understand, you want to export a file to autocad, but do not want certain classes (objects) being exported at the same time. You have turned the classes that you don't want exported, off in the organization palette. And you need to export by sheet layers, since you wish to differentiate between the different floors. I am no expert... but... do/try this... Ensure that the classes you do not want to export, are invisible in ALL of your viewports, even those viewports that do not carry that classed objects (I believe you have to make them invisible in sheet layer viewports ONLY - DLVP do not need to be touched... but I could be wrong) . An easy way to do this is by going into the organization dialog, and click the visibilities radio button (top right) - click the class (you want invisible), and ensure they are invisible in EACH viewport. Hope this helps... let us know... What I said about the DLVP not being required to touch, was only partially correct (or so I think). It all depends on the visible layers as well. By which I mean, if you have DLVP whose visible layers do not include the classes to be invisible, then those classes (of the DLVP), can be visible. However, if you have a layer visible which includes such a classed object (to be invisible in dwg), then that class WILL be exported as well.
  6. Hi... It all depends on how much detail you are looking at. An easy solution (which I have used in the past for a quick rendered visualization of a house)... Use the ROOF FACE tool - create the polygonal shape in plan view of the length of the ridge (or valley) capping, and pivot the roof face at the same point as your roof's bearing height. This can be done for all faces of the actual roof, and can be easily edited if needed. The capping (roof face) should be raised to sit on top of the actual roof. Obviously, the thickness and roof type should be chosen accordingly. Hope this is helpful...
  7. Update... Project Prefs seem to be working properly in VW2009 but not in VW2010. Using the 'Modern Home Prototype' file from the VW website on: Firstly VW2010 - When adding and selecting the 'Prefs_MHP' preference supplied by the download, although the description of the room finishes are selected (as it is part of the file), the prefs available are STILL the default ones. If another finish is selected (with key and description), it is not possible to reselect the original finish. Also, once OK is clicked in the settings dialog, a 'Prefs_Def' folder with the 'Room Finish Library.txt' file is created in my user folder plug-ins (folder). Any edits made to the finishes (regardless of which pref is selected) are reflected in the user folder At this point I thought I was going crazy as I was unable to sort this out. Then, when tried in VW2009 - After adding and selecting the 'Prefs_MHP' preference, the finishes available are shown in the drop down menu (with both key and description) correctly, how I believe it is supposed to work. Also, any edits made to the finishes are reflected on the 'Room Finish Library.txt' file in the 'Prefs_MHP' folder, and no file is created in the user folder plug-ins (folder). Awaiting response...
  8. Hi bcd... I am aware of the flexibility of DLVP, however, the whole idea was NOT to be required to manually rotate each time. If a North was specified for a particular layer/file, they can be automatically lined up. Thanks for your reply however...
  9. Hi... We have a multi-user environment here at work. I have been looking for a way to make our custom Room Finish Library (VW2010) to be available to all users, or even particular projects. It seems much easier in VW2011, but how can it be functional in VW2010? We have a current project file which has in all the spaces with the finishes. However, the actual drop down menu with key and description is only available on the cpu it was created on as it is stored in the user folder. From what I understand, it's to do with Project Preference Set, but that's not working for me for some reason. I would appreciate it if someone can please shed some light on this... Thank You...
  10. Hi there Mark... As far as I know, the Vectorworks Preferences are saved each time you quit Vectorworks, making them available the next time you launch again. Once you have your desired prefs, you can quit Vectorworks and locate the 'Vectorworks Preferences.xml' file in your User Folder, and copy this to another location, as a 'back-up'. When you are ready to use these prefs again, simply replace the existing prefs (in your User Folder), with the backed-up one. Ensure that Vectorworks has not yet been launched before replacing, or else your current settings would overwrite the backed-up one (which you replaced with) on quit. Locate your User Folder by going into the 'User Folders' tab in 'Vectorworks Preferences', and click 'Reveal in Finder'. Once in your User Folder, open the 'Settings' folder. You should see the .xml file mentioned. I hope this answers your question... Let us know...
  11. ...sorry... MINE is Space convert, because I converted the file from an older version of VW. Yours may be something like Space simple or something... yours would look like this... #1# #2# or something along those lines... If you use the space tool a lot, I may have found a way to make your default font for the spaces to be what you want it to be... Off to lunch now though!
  12. Hi there, Maybe I'm missing the proper way to do it, but, in your symbols and plug-ins of your resource browser, you'll find a symbol named something like 'space convert'. Edit the text in this to what you want your size and font to look like. Be careful though, the scaling is all wrong. You'll have to set the size to like '0. something' to get the right one. At least in mines anyways... Let us know if this works for you...
  13. Hello ALL... Here is something that may be 'wish-list-worthy', unless I have missed it already. Allow individual layers and files to contain orientation data in order to be able to properly placed/referenced (relative to it's 'true' orientation). Example: One has: 1) a site model (with relevant data from surveyors), with North (and it's North) being up on the page. 2) a building model, which is placed square on the page for easy workflow, but whose orientation is 'X' degrees from the (true) North. *If these models were placed together in the normal VW workflow, one (of the models) would have to be rotated from it's original state. These models can either be in separate files, or in the same file on different layers. The layers can be set up with orientation maybe relative to North (being up on the page). i.e. in the above example, the building model layer can be set to 'X', whereas the site model layer is set to '0' (North/up). Unified view will line both models up in the correct orientation with both layers having the same North. Also, page North can be toggled as can currently be done through the View > Lighting > Set Sun Position dialog. In fact, the user has the complete control of how the layers/sheets are viewed in relation to orientation. Of course this option can be toggled on and off, on a whole. There is no need to rotate an object/model each time, as it is automatically placed in the correct orientation which can then be further customized to suit the user's needs. While we're at it, the North Arrow PIO can also be automated with this, with an option of course! This is just an idea in development, but would like to hear any input on the possibilities of it as I may have missed out on something. Just sending this quickly to get some feedback, may have flaws in it... Thanks
  14. Hello there, As far as I know (having never used the function), after trying it just now on VW2008, you must first use 'Model Setup' and then 'Create Standard Viewports', in order for you to utilize the function of automated drawing borders. You can find these in File > Document Settings. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  15. Hello, Is there any way to reset parameters for (all/specific) plug-in objects in an existing document to the defaults of those specific plug-ins? What I would like to achieve is: After this function is executed, a plug-in object which has already been used in the document (eg. Sheet Border) is reset, so when the Sheet Border tool is clicked and placed in the file (again), we are faced with a pop-up showing the default settings... as would be done if that tool is used for the very first time in a document. In my case, the reason I require it, is: I have customized the 'Drawing Border - Universal' Plug-in so that by default, the margin widths are specified, as well as the number of grids. This was done by editing the parameters in Plug-in Editor. This version of the PIO was copied into a workgroup folder (on a server) so it is available to everyone. This works successfully on any drawing which has never used the sheet border tool. However, if a drawing has already used it, the default margins and number of grids, hold the VW default plug-in info (which would obviously have been used before the workgroup was added). I appreciate any help what so ever. Thanks
  16. Hi again... Proposed it to him... and he LOVES it... Can't REPLACE the 'Print' command for obvious reasons... so deleted the shortcut key for it and placed it on the new 'Print & PDF' command - Print & PDF = [command] + P. The rest of the staff should hopefully be reminded to make PDFs each time they go to print a document. It's a pity that the Export PDF (Batch) is not available in VS as yet. With the custom sheet border title blocks I just created, the automation (sheet number + sheet title .pdf) would work a charm. Matt, and even George, if you read this and can shed some light on my other requirement/wish list (to do with revisions in sheet border), I would appreciate it. http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=152454 Thanks
  17. Hello Matt... Loving it! Except for one minor flaw... diAlog instead of dislog I can possibly propose this to the boss now. In fact, I might just do that right now! Thank you both; George and Matt. This works for me, but (not meaning to be a pain or anything), can applescript be easily incorporated to 'Save as PDF' directly, and therefore eliminating one step? I have to learn this VS btw... any tips on where I can find easy to understand documentation? ...BEAUTIFUL!...[sigh of contentment]
  18. WOW... Honestly George... THIS IS BEAUTIFUL! ...and so simple. A great base for starting something here. Now the next step would be to spice up the message portion a little. Is there any way to create a pop up (prompt) where the user can click 'YES' or 'NO' and ONLY with the affirmative will it open the next print window to 'Save as PDF'? The coolest thing would be; the prompt itself includes (only) the 'Save as PDF' button, but that's maybe pushing it a little (as I believe this feature would require to combine applescript since that function is outside of VW (vs), but correct me if I'm wrong) Again though George.... BEAUTIFUL... JUST BEAUTIFUL... (it's a pity you can't 'LIKE' posts in this community...lol...)
  19. Hi again Pat, Yes, I have already done that as well. I have placed the file with the symbol that has in the dimension standards in the favorites folder of the workgroup, so it is available to everyone. However, the issue arrises with the text style not coming in with the standard and has to be manually allocated through Document prefs. In this file I have also included the text style used, if it needs to be imported as well. I have actually gone a little step further, and created a file in the workgroup/library/defaults/text styles folder which consists of the office standard text styles and overrides the default VW ones. Thus allowing users to to choose ONLY from the office standard text styles. :-)
  20. Hello, I have searched everywhere, and cannot seem to find the default dimension standards outside of the Vectorworks interface. There is no documentation (that I've seen) that directs me to where this can be. The reason I would like to know this is so that I can add our office standard dimension styles to it and make it available to all staff. Seeing that it is document based, I wouldn't think that it can be found in my user folder, which leaves the application folder, but I see nothing there. Can someone please let me know if they are aware of where this could be, or if they know 100% that this is no way editable? We are starting to use Vectorworks 2011 at work, and my aim is to have the office standard dimensions available to everyone. For the time being I have been doing as above and created a symbol with the relevant dims to bring in the custom standards into drawings. This symbol is in a file placed in the favorites folder of our office standard workgroup. This works, but only partially; the text style does not travel with the information, and I have to manually go into Document Preferences and allocate a text style to those particular dimension standards. Also, on drawing a dimension from scratch using the imported dim standard, the dimension string is blank, until I add the text style through document preferences. Is this how it is supposed to be? I have already created my office standard template (as default.sta) with the relevant custom dimensions, with the preferred text styles, and this seems to be working fine. Any information on this would be helpful... Thanks
