  1. I don't know why it took me so long to realize, but finally the bug that prevented right-clicking while the caps lock was engaged on Macs. Thank you so much
  2. Peter, By chance do you have Mac OSX Server? I do mean the server package, not a client acting like a server. I can solve it if you do.
  3. I noticed that displaying hatches caused drawings to act like this. removing the hatch fill sped it back to expected speeds or better.
  4. Travis, I seem to have nearly the same set up as you do, Hardware and software, and I very frequently have Acrobat 6.0.2 and Vectorworks open at the same time with no problems. Have you repaired permissions lately or other form of disk maintenance?
  5. Mike A quick tip is to change your save options from Minutes to operations, this does two thngs for you, 1) if you are working very quickly for a period of time, this will keep up with you. 2) and this addresses your issue, is it saves after a certain number of operations, so it doesn't kick you out of a text block.about the only operation I have problems in is 3d solids, where it can't save from. I have converted our whole office to this, even those that were convinced they would hate it, love it now. give it a try and see if you like it. ion
  6. Thanks Bruce, Good info to know. ion
  7. use the Callout tool in the flyoutbehind the Text tool. Make sure it doesn't have Keynote checked. set what kind of arrow ect. you want and then you can enter your note in the next window that comes up. it is a tool I really enjoy. HTH ion
  8. I have noticed that in VW 11.01 and VW 10.5.1 that you cannot use the angular dimension tool to dimension between objects that are on other layers. Is there a reason for this? it looks like all the other dimension tools work across layers. not a huge issue, we only use it occasionally so drawing a couple extra lines to get the dimension isn't a problem, I am just curious. thanks ion
  9. Katie one of the advantages of just being a user of these products I get to make generalized comments based on my past experience. Sure I could be wrong but I have not business or contractual agreements with either company. I pay attention to development cycles and make a prediction. As Andrew's Signature reads, I am not an official spokesman for either Apple or NNA ion
  10. Ethan, take a look at these discussions, see if this answers any of your questions...well other than why is it still an issue. Please note two things: I have always been and will be for the forseeable future a Mac user This issue seems to be as much Apple's fault as NNA's, It seems to me as hard as Apple is trying to court architects, it would be in their best issue to work closely with NNA to resolve it. ion PC vs Mac Speed issues V11 Speed V11 speed on G4 Slow V11 Slow v11
  11. Other than the speed issue that have been well documented on this board, right Katie? I don't have any problems with the stability of V11 in Panther rather it is the operations (like selection of many objects) that take 10 or more times as long in Panther. Paul has been very candid on the boards, and this seems to be a problem Apple blindsided the NNA developer's with if one believes Paul. I, for one, do believe him. I've used every public release of OS X since the days of Rhapsody and the original OSX Server. There has been a steady increase of System resources by OS X as it evolved. Apple has also made major changes under the hood in virtually every major release and some minor releases as well. I will be interested to see how it all shakes out as Tiger and VW 12 are released next year. ion
  12. not to pour salt in the wound, but this bug has been around version 9.x, let's just say the rush to fix this is underwhelming.
  13. Arch, The only way I have ever found was zooming to ridiculous percentages to see that the arc and the line actually snapped to each other, a sisyphean task it sounds like in your case. Have you tried the split tool instead of the Trim command? in 11 you can choose which pieces you want to keep. Also I have had fewer problems like this with that tool. I don't know exactly why. Actually this is a problem that has come back from the dead, I think it was one of the v8 releases was horribly riddled with this problem. ion
  14. I have found that this occurs where the end points of a line and an arc are in very close proximity but not actually touching. The solution is either to delete the arcs and redraw them making sure that the endpoints snap to eachother, or use the connect/combine to to ensure the existing end points are touching. In our office these usually show up in parking lot layouts, and can happen after using the fillet tool and the Trim Menu command in some undetermined combination. Hope this helps ion
  15. I just tested this on my powerbook, and yes the amount of zoom made for instantaneous selections, but also simply scrolling the drawing outside of the window accomplished the same things.
  16. Thank you for joining in the discussion Paul. One question I have is tyhe results I am seeing in the video card. I have the 9800 and in all other operations it screams redrawing hte screen, all interactions with windows, PIO's and the like. But I notice that The Nvidia 64 meg card are getting better selection times. has there been any testing of the Nvidia 6800 card? For most of our files the 9800 speeds up what we need, but I am always on the hunt for more speed. thanks
  17. Speed tests From APE Design Ctr's file Preliminary results Import 4 seconds initial select all 31 seconds initial deselect all 19 sec two successive select all 55 seconds two successive deselect all 55 seconds Open GL low & textures 1 second + lo, texture, nurbs 1s+ med texture, nurbs 1s+ high. text, nurbs 2s+ very high, textures, nurbs 2s+ Final RW 6 sec At the moment I do not know why there is such a difference between the initial and successive selections. 18. Just a follow up on my tests, I found that if I imported, saved and then ran the same tests in VW 11 I found that I consistently got 30 second select deselect times.
  19. Yes I started at the bottom. It is not a rocketship, but is a lot faster than either the Nvidia stock card, or the ATI 9600. I have 50 Mb improvement plan that I use as my test. operations that take 2 -3 minutes on either this 1.8 G5 with the Nvida 5200 video card, or on a 1st gen G5 dual 2 Ghz with the ATI 9600 Video card, take 10-20 seconds. These are operations like Select all, zoom and pan, zoom by rectangle. I don't remember the other reults at the moment, but is took 23 seconds to do a select all on over 275,000 objects. I don't have the time today to run the checks on the other computer or video card, but as soon as I get a chance I will post the numbers here. I find that there are momentary slowdowns, but ingeneral it seems very fast. In the the month or so we've had it, the $350 for the video card seems cheap. But yes VW is still the doggiest of my apps. Sketchup, Pshop, Illustrator, Golive, Filemaker. HTH
  20. I can't get to the next chck box before the last has fully expanded. There is a sub-second hiccup when I click on the top (General) box but is expanded before I could think about entering any data I forgot to mention, I did this with 5 1.5 Mb Large site plans open at the same time. I didn't do anything to speed up the results. [ 11-01-2004, 02:40 PM: Message edited by: ionw ]
  21. I haven't done extensive rendering tests, but the video card made working in the program snappier. as before if you have a test file, i am happy to run it on my computer and give you my result.
  22. on my destop with 10.3.5 I have the option to throttle the Processor. The speed became a non issue when I popped for the ATI Radeon 9800 SE ($350 @ CDW) All of the Interface redraws, window popup slowdowns disappeared. other's mileage may vary.
  23. Energy saver allows you to throttle the processor back. It is there mostly for portables to extend battery life, but you can do it on Desktops to reduce heat and thus fan noise. Default is at Highest performance. I don't recall the percentage decrease in clockspeed, but it is noticable.
