Editing roof faces

Look at the roof faces from the side rather than Top/Plan. You can then draw sloping lines to find the point of intersection, and find the x distance from each face to that point. Then you back to Top/Plan view and edit each roof face by clicking on it twice and adding/subtracting rectangles or polygons using the x value. When you click Done your roof faces should be touching.

David,

Thanks but... this still seems like a real compromise with these great solids tools. VW will so some real complex cuts and intersections.

It just seem odd that one of these commands won't work like the 2D "join" command. Also "clip surface" and "intersect surface" are both illegal.

I'm still having trouble believing one of these powerful commands won't do this...?

LARRY, You said you are working with ROOF FACES (as opposed to a ROOF OBJECT). If this is true, then, in order to modify the shape of each ROOF FACE, you need to DOUBLE CLICK on it. This will give you the polygonal (2d) shape, in plan view, from which the ROOF FACE was created. Now you can edit the 2d geometry as you like, then click done, which will get you back to the drawing.

As a note, new in version 12 is the ability to use the 3D RESHAPE TOOL on a ROOF OBJECT. That means you can move eaves, ridges, hips, etc., with the mouse.

Hope that helps...
