select similar tool : by device name

Hello is a way to use select similar tool by device name , I dont find that criterion in the select similar setting...

 

May there is an another way to achieve what I want...

So I want to select all the same device with the same name to use the renumber tool to give a unique name to all the same device .

So I think I'll put each same device on a specific class, and use the select similar tool by class 🙂

But for now I have another problem, when I import a device from my library it doesn't import the class... , I think this is because of the non style compatible...

 

Have an idea ?

Hi @Ben59,
as far as I understand you'll have to use "Select similar...">"Record Field" and then Name, Make, Modell or whatever the common denominator is.

sorry, german screenshot, but you get the idea:
(device-Gerät; name-Gerätename; ....)


but maybe there is another, less time consuming method? 😉

Is there a way to have "Favorites" or "Presets" when using the "Select Similar" tool? because as I see it one has to repeat the above steps everytime you want to select similar objects as VW does not remember the last settings. 😕

Hello all,

 

You can always use Tools->Custom Selection menu command and then select to create a Vector/Python script from the command. Then you will be able to execute exactly the same operation using that script.

thank you all , I just discovered the Tools->Custom Selection menu command , I only knew the select similar tool who isn't enough "powerfull"

I'll test to create a Vector/Python script from the command 🙂

 

One step further , It will be my first use of script 🙂
