okPanic
Hi - Does anyone know why deleting broken references would take ~10 minutes each? I have a pretty large file (800MB) with a bunch of broken references that just need to go. There are no viewports or anything else using the references but deleting them delivers at least 10 minutes of spinning beach ball each and I have 10 or 12 to go. VW2021 FWIW Quote Link to comment
zoomer
I assume, because, depending on Reference Mode and/or Settings, likely the Reference File's geometry is still saved in the Target VW File and has to be processed and deleted. (At least I had Files in the past, after opening in newer VW Versions later, showing referenced geometry - although the References where orphaned) AFAIK I also had problems when opening older Files in newer VW Versions, to get rid of that included Reference Geometry Cache, which lead to crashing the current VW Version. AFAIR I had to open the original File in older VW, to get rid of the References and Reference Cache Geometry - before I could migrate the File to newer VW, migrate the old Reference Files separately and reattach to the Target File .... okPanic
Got nothing to do with older versions of VW. All the files are in 2021. Quote Link to comment
Art V
Then @zoomer's reference to cached items in the file needing to be processed may still apply. Without a sample file to see how the document is constructed it is hard to tell what might be the exact cause of this issue but the above explanation sounds reasonable to me for now. Especially if there might be nested references as it may cause other objects trying to find the just deleted reference again. Can't you delete the broken references all at once? (I rarely had to deal with broken references and if I had to it was usually 1 or 2 and I never really noticed an impact on deleting them in the past). Quote Link to comment
