Doors/Windows as symbols

I could swear I could convert a door to a symbol to repeat it all over and still get to assign it a unique schedule number. Seems I cannot.

You can make a "Red" symbol (so called because the symbol name is in a red font in the Resource Manager) that will convert from a symbol into a PIO when inserted. But if you do this you lose the ability to only make a change in one place.

 

But if you use Styles instead you can edit the Style and all the instances will change.

 

Or maybe you want to keep them as symbols, but use the Data Tag tool instead of the built in tag of the object so you get unique numbers.

@Pat Stanford Thanks for the refresher. And how can I add Frame Detail info, Fire Rating info, HDW Set info, Door Data info (Manuf, Model...), Etc, to each door style in the Obj Info window instead of to the Door Schedule on a one-by-one basis?
