Marshall Wright
Greetings, Question. If I create a series of lines and polys and maybe a symbol, select all objects, can I then use copy or duplicate to create a copy of the object? Do these two commands do different things with various types of objects? Thanks in advance. Marshall Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted January 31, 2005 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 31, 2005 Duplicate creates a duplicate copy of the objects in the current environment. Copy creates a duplicate copy of the objects in an area of memory called the "clipboard". You can then "Paste" anything that is contained in the Clipboard to another environment. Marshall Wright
Robert, So I understand here. They both accomplish the same thing but "duplicate" is quicker? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted January 31, 2005 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 31, 2005 Different things. Duplicate is quicker if you want to use the objects in the same place. Copy is quicker if you want to move the duplicate info somewhere else. Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
if you want a copy of the object on the same layer i use duplicate. An easy way to duplicate is to drag the object the new location while holding down the Option Key (macintosh) or CTRL Key (windows). I call it drag a copy and it is really fast! Copy and paste when you want to copy the object to a different layer or inside a group (or symbol, roof, floor etc.) Quote Link to comment
