Texturing in VW - A Working Solution

Recommended Posts

Seems to be a hot topic again. I notice that it was talked about a lot when the Sub-D tool appeared as there is no way to texture map the resulting object apart from a single color/texture.

Over quite sometime I have been working with different alternatives, some good some not so but with the ability to import/export OBJ then there are more choices and this route should not be discounted.

For example you can take a Sub-D object (no need to convert) and export to OBJ and open in PhotoShop and generate the UVs before putting it back into VW via import OBJ.

Its not perfect but in all honesty its half-decent and in PhotoShop you can use projection painting to directly paint on the Sub-D object.

Note the attached VWX file is edu as I am an edu user. It shows the original Sub-D and the re-imported and textured OBJ

Also note that the exported OBJ puts the OBJ into a folder called xxx.obj which I created a post about yesterday as I believe it is a bug.

have to say the formz sub d tool is very good........

We study FormZ very closely when working on the Subdivision tool, it's one of the best if not the best in the industry. I like Blender's as well, but it is much harder to use in my opinion.
