barkest
If I create a rectangle and then select it and the wall and choose wall recess then the recess jumps to the wrong position. The recess should be in the centre of the selected wall (as shown). This is in 2017 but it happens in 2016 and 2015 as well. thanks Quote Link to comment
zoomer
This happens because Wall Recesses can't be at the Ends of Walls. Especially at the Ends of joined Walls. The Wall Ends mean the Ends of the Wall control line. You can try to switch auto join off and manually join the touching Walls to your Recess Wall in a T-Join. barkest
Its frustrating because the wall recess means I still have walls. The alternative is an extrude but then that becomes a solid subtraction which for texturing is awful. So then I will use the extract tool to get around it. Texturing is once again my nemesis Quote Link to comment
barkest
Thanks Zoomer +1 given Extended the walls, auto join off, t-join, drag walls back to be inline with original walls. Works but have texture mess with start and end of wall (caps) to match existing. It is 'do able' but not great Quote Link to comment
barkest
Just to finish off. It works but you have to play around with the texturing. I found out that the attribute mapping tool does not work on a start cap of a wall, so you have to texture around the start cap. You can move local coords but not with the attribute mapping tool - go figure. Quote Link to comment

barkest
I know I am a broken record but texturing sucks in VW. So much effort for something so simple and I have to explain it to students who think it should not be this messy. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
I realized in VW 2016 that Attribute Mapping Tool does not work with Walls and saw that VW 2017 will do. I did not play with it so far. Not very likely, but what happens if you assign a Texture to your Recess Geometry before ... (Like Boolean Operations in a 3D Mesh App ?) Quote Link to comment
barkest
My recess geometry is 2D. I don't often use a 3D shape but will give it a go. With a recess and a projection you have to make it a wall as object has been broken since at least 2012 Quote Link to comment
