RENDER BITMAP tool has changed

markdd

Question

The render bitmap tool can be really useful for small bits of rendering on the design layer. In 2016 when in Top/Plan one used to be able to activate the tool, then draw a bounding box, and then the tool would render the box to the specified setting. Now when you activate the tool, the view immediately changes to a Rendered Top View. You can still draw a bounding box, which is in screen plane, but then you have to change the whole view back to Top/Plan to continue working.

Surely this cannot be as designed, or am I missing something here?

I notice that the Bitmap object info palette is vastly improved! Thanks for that.

I am unable to replicate different behavior in 2016 than in 2017, both of them enter Top view as soon as I go to use Render Bitmap. I hadn't noticed this personally since i normally have a 3D view up before using the tool but I can see the utility in snapping quick one-offs from Top/Plan. Was there an older version that did this?

Would it ideally snap to Top view during the drawing out of the marquee so that you could see what you were grabbing, (Since a Perspective Top view would have different needed bounds than iso Top) then snap back to Top/Plan afterwards?
