VW 8.5.2->10 on MAC OS X?

Recommended Posts

Should I follow the straight yellow brick road to VW10 or the curvy 8.5.2 ->9.5->10?

Is VW10 good enough and how much trouble is the learning curve going to be?

MAC G3 (B&W)/400/700MB RAM, OS X 10.2.1, lots of VW 8 drawings to convert.

And what about the Dongle thing? [Eek!]

The dongle version of VW is for US Educational versions and all international versions.

There aren't too many problems with the dongle when it's installed correctly per the installation instructions.

You cannot purchase VW 9 from NNA at this point. We are only selling VW 10. Some international distributors are still selling 9 as VW 10 is still in the process of being translated for local languages.

There isn't much of a difference between going from VW 8 to VW 10 and VW 8 to VW 9.

Basically when converting a VW 8 to a 9 or 10 file, the same steps of updating are required.

going from VW 9 to VW 10, a simple conversion is all that needs to take place.

The cool thing about VW 10 is the batch converter. You can select a folder of files to convert and also specify the destination location the converted files will go to.

VW 9 doesn't have this feature and you need to convert them one at a time. Kinda nice feature don't ya think?

Once a file has been converted from VW 8 to either 9 or 10, a utility called Update to V2 Objects needs to be run to update all version 1 PIOs to Version 2 PIOs which were introduced in VW 9 to keep up with the application bit change.

THere isn't a batch conversion for that. That is something that needs to be done once on every converted 8 and earlier to 9 or 10.

If it's converted in VW 9, the update to v2 objects utility doesn't need to be run when converting from VW 9 to VW 10.

I hope that clears up some of your questions. Let me know if you would like additional information.
