section viewport: design to sheet layer

i have created section viewports and placed them in design layers. now i want to print those sections. how can i get those same viewports onto a sheet layer? seems like an simple thing to do, but...

Cut out the middle man. Instead of creating the section viewports on design layers create them on a sheet layers to begin with.

If you don't want to do that for some reason then just create sheet layer viewports of your design layers.

In either case there's an option to choose to put your viewport on a design layer or sheet layer when you create the viewports.

christian, thanks for the quick reply. i created the design layer sections to be able to measure in actual scale rather than having to multiply when using the sheet layer. but, i may have to reconsider.

i tried to create a sheet layer viewport from the design layer. but for some reason it isn't working.

frankly, the section tool and i do not get along.

You can measure in actual scale when going into the annotations of the section viewport. No need for calculating.

okay, now it's working: create sheet layer viewports of your design layers.

apparently, the problem was due to update not being complete.

Nevertheless I'd still recommend putting your section viewports directly on a sheet layer. As Dieter points out, you can measure off these by double-clicking into their Annotation layer first.

dieter and christian, thanks for explaining the annotations layer. you are right. that is the best way to view and work with a section.
