kitkollmeyer
I'm going through the process of replacing classes in a project from an old naming system and line weights to a new naming system with new line weights. (from A-03lightest to Line-05lightest, etc.) I have to do this with a dozen classes in about two dozen files. Right now I'm just importing the new classes from the first file, then deleting the old classes one by one and telling vectorworks to move the objects associated with the class that I'm deleting to the appropriate new class. It's turning out to be a tedious process. Does anyone know of a better workflow or way to do this to all of my files at once? Thanks, Kit Quote Link to comment
jamesmise
Can you rename the classes on the original file and then import them? Line weights shouldn't be a problem since you can specify those by class at any time later. I think the way you are doing it might be the way. Jim Quote Link to comment
kitkollmeyer
That's essentially what I've been doing, but I then have to go delete every old class from all of the files individually, to ensure that everything in the file ends up in the correct class. Maybe there isn't any other way to do it. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Mark Mullany Posted July 19, 2012 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted July 19, 2012 As Vincent has shown there, Tools > Class and Layer Mapping is a simple efficient way of achieving what you want. Don't forget to map your layers aswell! Quote Link to comment
Dieter @ DWorks
Do what Vincent says. Also, keep in mind that by doing what you do know, the visibility of the classes in your viewports will be lost. Renaming them will not alter the visibility in viewports. Importing and overwriting also alters the visibility. Be very carefull with this. If class and layer mapping doesn't go that well for you, I have a script for this I'm willing to share, but first try the mapping feature. Quote Link to comment

jamesmise
Woah Nellie. Where is this Class & Layer Mapping thing? I don't have it under Tools. Jim Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Mark Mullany Posted July 20, 2012 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted July 20, 2012 Hmmm I've had a look into it and the Help only has the icons for Architect and Landmark for this. You might want to put it on the wishlist for Spotlight Quote Link to comment
