cwailes
Anyone have any ideas what causes this? I can manually fix it but how do I get it to stop doing this automatically? Quote Link to comment
D Wood
Stop it doing what automatically - not fitting the gable wall properly, or not placing the window correctly? Edited October 21, 2011 by D Wood Quote Link to comment
cwailes
Fitting the gable wall properly. The window I pulled out so it is just sitting away from the gable wall while I try to figure out what is causing that problem. Quote Link to comment
Monadnoc
Have you run the "Fit Walls To Roof" command? If so, and the result is this, then I'd say you have to do it manually. Although I've had pretty good success using Fit Walls To Roof, as long as the roof is on a different layer. Monadnoc Quote Link to comment
cwailes
The wall is part of the roof though, when I use the create roof and then set that one as a gable. Quote Link to comment
Monadnoc
Hmmmm, that is strange. I usually don't use the gable option for roofs, but I have a few times. And it's never done that. It always works fine. I'm on 2011. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of that function can help you out. It may just be a corrupt roof or file. You may want to use Fit Walls To Roof as a work around. I prefer it anyway. Monadnoc Quote Link to comment
cwailes
Anybody else have an idea of what is causing this? It only seems to happen on the front. If I convert one of the sides of the roof to a gable the wall(in the gable) fits fine. Edited October 21, 2011 by ccw Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
ccw, any way you can post the actual file. I'd be curious to take a look and try to figure out what's going on. BTW, I have never seen this behavior, so I'm especially curious... Quote Link to comment
djb
This happens to me all the time. It's not corrupt. Sometimes it's because the overhang setting is too small or you edit the roof using 3d tool. I've relented to no using 'create gable wall' feature and extend lower floor walls up or add a wall to roof layer and then edit. Quote Link to comment
D Wood
I've never seen that either. You can of course edit the wall as djb says using the 3DModelling>3D Reshape tool (might be called something different in later VW versions) if you want the gable wall to be different from the wall below, but it would be good to find out why it did this in your file. I wonder about the process and sequence of inserting the window - did you create the roof with the gable wall (in plan view), insert the window then check the 3D look? Is the window a symbol or import from another file? Could it be corrupted, was it created in an earlier VW version? Edited October 22, 2011 by D Wood Quote Link to comment
cwailes
Peter I will post the file today. I have to get a project out first but will get it posted later today. D Wood, basically what I normally do is create the roof as close to what I am trying to achieve, but with the "Create Roof" tool then I usually ungroup the roof and insert the windows into the gable walls. In this case I don't have the window inserted yet because of the problem I was having with that wall. Quote Link to comment
cwailes
Ok, here is the file. I will also send it in as a bug. Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Yes, for sure a bug. Seems to have something to do with the two smaller double gables interfering with the larger gable behind...Please do submit it to the team! Quote Link to comment
cwailes
I tried submitting the file, but the email bounces back. I tried: bugsubmit@nemetschek.net bugsubmit@nemetschek.com tech@vectorworks.net tech@vectorworks.com tech@nemetschek.net tech@nemetschek.com none of these go through. I even tried a different computer. They all bounce back. Edited October 23, 2011 by ccw Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Interesting. Have you already filed the Bug Report, and now cannot send the file? If that's the case I would wait to see if someone contacts you tomorrow to request the file. Otherwise let me know and I can try to follow up/send file if needed.
