alfresco 0 Posted December 9, 2010 I have just created a site model for a new project. When I go to modify the site using the grader, or try to create pads the system freezes. Is there new processes in place on 2011 for modifying a site? Thanks Quote Share this post Link to post
CipesDesign 149 Posted December 9, 2010 The Site Modeling tools in 2010 are very similar to those in 2011, and I have used both with equal success. That said, these processes take a lot of patience and some amount of trial and error. Here are a couple things you might check. Are you sure that a) there are no Site Modifiers touching or overlapping each other? b) That all Pads & Graders are entirely surrounded by a Boundary Object (formerly called a "Fence") and are not touching or overlapping the Boundary? c) As appropriate, use the Simplify 3d Polys command to reduce the vertices of the source objects? Also, when you say the "system freezes" what exactly are you seeing? If it is the spinning beach ball, as opposed to an outright crash, then I would guess that the program is still working and will (maybe) finish if given enough time. I've seen complex site models that take many minutes to update, even on a reasonably fast machine. If you're still having problems, and if your file isn't too huge, maybe post it here so others can take a quick look. Hope that helps, Quote Share this post Link to post
alfresco 0 Posted December 9, 2010 Thank you very much. Yes I am still having difficulty. The file is too large to post. Quote Share this post Link to post
CipesDesign 149 Posted December 9, 2010 Maybe it would help if you posted a screenshot and a more detailed step by step explanation of the specific operation(s) you are performing and their result. Quote Share this post Link to post
riccasoli 0 Posted December 9, 2010 Hi, I'm an Italian User of VW2009 with MacOS 10.5.8 (sorry in advance for my English Language and if I'm not precise). I'm having problems with site modifiers in a project. The contour lines are costrained by immaginary invisible lines that converge towards a point of a leveler poliline. For better explanation I send images of the model. I tried everything to resolve this problem but without success. Can anybody help me? The file is 8.9 Mb (5.6Mb compressed). I try sending two screenshots of the model. Many thanks in advance Ric Quote Share this post Link to post
CipesDesign 149 Posted December 9, 2010 Ric, could you please explain what the exact problem is? Have you remembered to click "update" after adding Site Modifiers? Quote Share this post Link to post
riccasoli 0 Posted December 9, 2010 I've problems in explaining you the matter. I succeeded in reducing the file size of the model so I can post it to let you understand directly the question. Please give a look and tell me what's wrong. It's all the day that I'm breaking my mind in trying to solve this problem. Thank you again. Riccardo Quote Share this post Link to post
CipesDesign 149 Posted December 9, 2010 I got it to work (using newer version of VW's). I think you had your 3d Display set to "None". To change this select Site Model. In Object Info select "2d Display = Proposed Only" The other thing I found is that this is a very very complicated Site Model and it takes a long time to update (2-3 minutes on my machine). I have attached a ScreenShot for you. Good Luck! Quote Share this post Link to post
alfresco 0 Posted December 9, 2010 How do I add a screen shot for download? Thanks Quote Share this post Link to post
CipesDesign 149 Posted December 9, 2010 First create the screen shot. On Mac, full screen is "Command Shift 3" or to drag mouse over portion of screen use "Command Shift 4". Then click on Full Reply Screen (below) and use the FIle manager... Quote Share this post Link to post
alfresco 0 Posted December 10, 2010 I have taken a screen shot of the existing site model. I want to change grades for landscape area as well as patio structure. I am having difficulty with modifying the site. I am also getting unrealistic cut and fill information. Thanks again for your help. Quote Share this post Link to post
Thom 14 Posted December 10, 2010 If you are using 2009, Use an "open pad" to control the site model. Draw a poly line over the area you want to control, go to 'modify' 'objects from a poly line' select site modifier, pad, assign an elevation and slope. Quote Share this post Link to post
CipesDesign 149 Posted December 10, 2010 Yes! Thom is right. Think of an "open pad" as if you are drawing a new/proposed contour line. Just make sure that no site modifiers touch each other and that they are all within a "Boundary" object... Quote Share this post Link to post
alfresco 0 Posted December 13, 2010 I have modified the site. I cannot seem to change the colour of thesite model since the modification? Thanks for all your help. Quote Share this post Link to post
CipesDesign 149 Posted December 13, 2010 Go to Site Model Settings, then click on the Graphic Properties button, then find the appropriate field to change color. It will be one of the "3d" ones, neat the bottom of the list... Quote Share this post Link to post
alfresco 0 Posted December 13, 2010 I tried doing changing the setting in graphic properties however cannot get colour for surface topography? Thanks Quote Share this post Link to post
CipesDesign 149 Posted December 13, 2010 See attached which should be self-explanatory. Remember that in order to see any changes that have been made to a Site Model it must first be "Updated". Quote Share this post Link to post
alfresco 0 Posted December 13, 2010 Thank you very much Peter for your help and patience! I am still having problems and not sure why? I have changed the properties, tried changing elevations, updating site model etc. I have posted a screen shot and perhaps you would be alble to see something I am missing. Thanks!
