StaticDOS
hey guys is there anyway to apply material to a face of an object e.g just one side of a wall? In AutoCAD you simply hold the shift key to apply a material to a face but this doesnt seem to work in VW. Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Yes. Select the wall, go to the object info palette (OIP) click on the render tab and select the side of the wall to which you want to apply the texture. Use the texture pulldown below to select the specific texture. You can also do this "by class" or by defining a "wall style". Note 1: you should try not to compare ACAD to VW's. They are entirely different programs with entirely different interfaces and entirely different underlying concepts. Note 2: to get the most from this forum it will be helpful if you post your computer specs, OS and VW's versions. Easiest way to do this is to create a signature. See the "My Stuff" pulldown above to do this.... Quote Link to comment
StaticDOS
Hi thanks, what about applying materials to individual parts of doors etc. when inserted from the building shell toolbar? Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
This one is slightly - okay totally- arcane, and requires one to use the (oft-dreaded) "Style Classes". Select the door, then click on Settings (in the OIP). In the Settings window are a bunch of Tabs, select the View tab. In the view tab pulldown, select the door (or window) part you wish to texture/color, then use the lower pulldown to assign this particular part to on the numbered style classes. To complete the process you will need to open the Class setup dialog and assign a texture (or color) to each of the Style classes (make sure that "use at creation" in checked). Now go back and render the file and you should see the chosen materials on the chosen parts. And before you complain about this (tedious) process, remember two things: 1) you can always make one and then duplicate it and change size, etc, as desired (thereby alleviating the need to do this over and over) and 2) we all hate the style classes and have for as long as I can remember... However, they are the only way to accomplish this task... Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
Parts for the Door (and Window) objects can be set by assigning parts to classes. Select the door and click the settings button in the Object Info Palette (OIP). Go to the View tab. At the bottom, select the part you want to set a material for and in the next pull down set the class you want to use for that part. You can only set the class to 15 classes named Style-1 to Style-15. Yes, that is a pain, and yes, almost everyone has asked for this to be changed so we can use names that make sense. In the Organization Palette, edit the classes you assigned to parts and set then to Use at Creation and at the bottom of the window pick the Other tab and set the texture you want to use for that class. Note that in order to use textures (which this thread is all about) that you have to have Renderworks. If you don't have renderworks you will only be able to assign colors, not materials. StaticDOS
hi thanks but there doesnt seem to be a way to change the material of the door itself? Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Use the settings for "Int Panels" & "Ext Panels". You can also change the "Leaf" type in the Parts Tab (to a Panel door, or glass door, for example) Quote Link to comment
