CARMELHILL
Anyone else having problems with their Quictime VR Panoramic and VR Object exports when using Quicktime on a Vista 64 bit machine? I've read elsewhere that Quicktime Player has problems on Vista 64 bit. Quote Link to comment
brudgers
I've had problems in Vectorworks with any version of Quicktime other than the one that ships with Vectorworks. I also recommend only using the video drivers from Dell on your t7400. Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
Can you try a different version of Quicktime? I'm pretty sure they archive older versions. Not sure about 64 bit version though. Quote Link to comment
brudgers
I'd recommend using the one on the original vectorworks disk. It's will be the most recent supported version for the windows platform. Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
Is there a 64 bit version on the install disk? I was assuming there isn't. Quote Link to comment
CARMELHILL
If you can't find your install CD, you can search for older versions of Quicktime at: http://www.apple.com/support/quicktime/ They also call it applecare. I haven't tried reinstalling the older quicktime version yet to see if it'll fix my problem. I'm working in the field today. Quote Link to comment
brudgers
Is there a 64 bit version on the install disk? I was assuming there isn't. I don't know. But the one on the original CD is likely to have the fewest issues...gaping security holes aside that is. Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
Well, you are on 64bit XP. Is there one? Where did you install yours from? Quote Link to comment
brudgers
Well, you are on 64bit XP. Is there one? Where did you install yours from? The original disk...that's why I recommended it. I've had problems with other versions under 32bit XP and x64. In my opinion, quicktime was never really intended as the basis for a CAD program...or rather it hasn't reaaly been intended for such use since the Clinton administration. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Dave Donley Posted June 10, 2009 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted June 10, 2009 There is indeed a problem with the Quicktime Player application on Vista 64-bit. It doesn't work to view QTVR files. The files are exported correctly from Vectorworks on a Vista 64-bit OS though. The QTVR problem is limited to Apple's player application on Vista 64-bit. IanH
Dave Could you briefly comment on how much reliance Vectorworks has on Quicktime, especially regarding within a Windows environment? ie. Is Quicktime being used as standard drawing functions as well its animation capabilities, or are drawing functions handled by the raw Windows API, albeit possibly some middleware to provide consistency between the Windows and Mac environments. I appreciate that it may well be commercially sensitive information, but even if it was something along the lines as to whether Quicktime is extensively used or not would be useful to know. Vectorworks, Inc Employee Dave Donley Posted June 11, 2009 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted June 11, 2009 Quicktime is used mainly for image file importing and exporting (to handle the conversion of all the different image formats) and the movie exports, naturally. Vectorworks uses native OS drawing calls (GDI/GDI+ and OpenGL) on Windows so no, QT is not used for that. We also use it still for some MacOS resource file handling but that is being retired over time. HTH, Quote Link to comment
Guest jkelly
To answer the earlier question, no, there is currently no separate 64-bit installation DVD. Quote Link to comment
brudgers
We also use it still for some MacOS resource file handling but that is being retired over time. Hopefully that's a step toward implimentation of a less risky alternative for windows users. Quote Link to comment

I guess from this we can deduce that if there is an on screen glitch, its going to have nothing to do with the Quicktime. I know of quite a few people who blame VW screen issues on its use of Quicktime and the conflict between Quicktime version as tested and shipped with VW, and that that is rolled out with many iTunes updates which prompts the first use warning.
