Repaired Strand Fresnel Symbols

Recommended Posts

There was a discussion on the theatre list about a bug in the Strand 6" and 8" Fresnels that caused them to not render light.

The attached symbols fix the geometry/texture problem.

I added an asterisk to the names.

While we're at it, attached is the same fix applied to the Altman Fresnel Symbols. Except for the Inky - that one was fine. The repaired symbols have as asterisk.

I am not too familiar with using Spotlight stuff,

I opened these, but there is no light object in these right?

If not, then where do you put the light object for it to

project the light property (and what kind of light source?)

Take the following with big grain of salty ignorance:

In previous versions I recall that there used to be a light object imbedded. But now it's done differently.

These symbols become parametric objects when used with the Spotlight instrument insertion tool.

VW uses an arc cosine function (I think) to calculate footcandles and a light object to render. (I think).

Some of the parameters of the light object are edited from one of the edit windows in Spotlight; some are built into the fixture data in the attached record.

It's not like creating a fixture with IES data...

Speaking of big grains of salty ignorance...

Don't download the above symbols yet. Turns out Steve Shelley (SoftSymbols & Field Templates - http://www.fieldtemplate.com/) uses an asterisk to identify his symbols.

To avoid any confusion, I'll repost these with a different name in the very near future.

OK. With apologies to Mr. Shelley, here are the repaired Strand Symbols.
