Mark Taylor
Sometimes I would like to place a snap a certain x and y distance away from another object. Is there a way to do that? Thanks, Mark Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Try this: - Activate the tool you want to use. - Place your mouse at the point you want to reference from. - Press the G key to define this as your datum point. - Tab to activate the Heads Up Display - Tab into the X field and enter the required value. - Tab into the Y field and enter the required value. - Start drawing from the new defined point. Also works with length and angle values. Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
If you want a permanent reference at that point, follow Mikes directions above, but put a locus point at that position. If you don't need an exact x/y, you can use the Offset Datum setting in the Smart Point settings to get a circle showing all points a certain distance from the datum point. Pat Quote Link to comment
Mark Taylor
Yes! I am used to TurboCAD and I am finding that Landmark is quite different. Thank you! Mark Quote Link to comment
Mark Taylor
Thank you Pat. That will be helpful. In TurboCAD I was used to drawing multitudes of construction lines to align objects. Mark Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
Make sure you have the SmartPoints snap turned on and the Horizontal/Vertical extensions turned on in the settings. You will then be able to hover over a point (to set a datum), and then move off the point. When you are aligned with the point you will get an "Extension" (temporary construction) line to snap to. mike m oz
In TurboCAD I was used to drawing multitudes of construction lines to align objects. You can draw lines, polygons, arcs etc in VW and turn them into Guides (aka construction lines) via the Modify menu. These become a Class which you can turn on and off, and also delete via the Guides sub-menu. Quote Link to comment
