XOP15
Hi Guys, Does anyone know if it is possible to extrude a TT Font. I am trying to create a "neon" style sign. Any help greatly received. Cheers Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Yes, if you have the "True Type to Polyline" command (not sure whether this is part of fundamentals package...). First create the text, then run the command, then extrude. Quote Link to comment
XOP15
Hi There, Thanks for your reply, OK, yes i have the 'Truetype to Polylines' command in the drop down text menu, I am able to execute this command. I just cant extrude it. I just get the error message "there were objects selected that were locked or are illegal in extrudes and sweeps. They have been deselected" Any ideas ? Cheers, Dave. CipesDesign
If I remember correctly, the result of the TT to Poly command is a GROUP (which is not an extrudable object type). Try Ungrouping, then select all (of the objects that were grouped) then extrude... Quote Link to comment

DigitalGaz
Not sure if it's correct to comment on a solved post. Is there a solution for text that has been imported from a .DWG file that was created in Illustrator??? (Custom Text for a Logo) Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
If the "custom text" is actually a VW's Text Object, and if the Font Type is acceptable (TT and some others) then the above procedure should work. If the "text" is actually something else? let us know what (select it and see what it is called in the Object Info Palette [OIP]). Quote Link to comment
DigitalGaz
The Custom text is a logo that has been drawn and created in Illustrator. It has then been saved as a .dwg and the imported to VW. OIP denotes that it is a 3D symbol. The logo looks as if it could be extruded as when switching drop Top Down to an Isometric view the shape angles as it should. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted February 4, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted February 4, 2014 If they have come in as symbols, you can edit the symbol to get at the geometry, depending on whether it is 2D or 3D you'll either TT to Polyline and then extrude as described above, or simply go right to the extrusion. You won't be able to extrude the symbols directly from the outside. Quote Link to comment
