Object Luminosity??

I have a simple large 3D polygon in the shape of a rectangle. The fill attribute is white, but when I render it out, it turns grey. This is, ofcourse, because it treats it as a solid object with shaded values do to the default light or the lights I have in the drawing. So, how do I make this rectangle illuminate white? I want it to act as though it is a white silk stretched out over the set and it is being illuminated by hundreds of lights above. Is there a simple way to add a luminosity value to a 3D object?
