FabianMohr
Hello. I would like to know if it is possible to launch vektorworks with a parameter to imediatly read in a file and convert the data into variables to use them in a vectorscript (which doesnt have to be load imediatly, but if it is neccessary it would be fine aswell). thanks in regards, Fabian Mohr Quote Link to comment
Gerrit
If you're on a Mac, you might take a look into AppleScript. Quote Link to comment

Dieter @ DWorks
are there any function references or some tutorials aswell for it? If you download the sdk from the VW website, you'll get examples with it. The thing is that you'll need the whole version of msdn wich includes c++ and you'll also need to know how to program in it. islandmon
In our more security conscious world the trend is away from embedded executables and toward secure User/root permissions with trusted certificates. The OS utilizes an application like Finder which is specifically constrained to a sandbox and precluded from executing executables with embedded macros without User defined permissions. Hence the idea of using VW as a front-end to execute code " with a parameter to immediately read in a file and convert the data into variables" is specifically prohibited because it violates required User privileges ( Vectorscript is NOT a User ). Imagine ... under Win95 a script process could launch Excel-Word or Outlook processes which could then use macros to access your harddrive or the network without your knowledge or permission ( ditto for the Print processes ).** **Many Users have complained about the 'default' window at VW launch , but that window serves as a sandbox which precludes malicious 'macro-type scripts, because all Vectorscript Procedures address the active window container. Dieter @ DWorks
In autocad, you have the ability to call a script at startup, why can't we have that in VW? It's not that hard to implement, and it will makes it easy with larger firms to set thing up when launching VW Quote Link to comment
islandmon
VW requires the registered User to select a script and then to activate the script from within the program based on various parameters associated with the functions. The Workspace Editor assists with the GUI interface. User created Templates provide overall Preferential parametric consistency to any level of sophistication. Why not just use the Template Module for each initial set-up? Templates can even have scripts included. Quote Link to comment
