Simon Carus-Wilson
I have imported various bits of truss from a file sent to me from Total Structures, the reason being is that I have to come up with strange lengths so I end up using alot of Cubes. Not that I do not like the Truss Tools provided I just need to see what it is really going to look like. So, I lay out the Truss in the configuration I need, make it into a Group then make it into a Lighting Position, Name it, now ,if Position Summary is selected my Truss disappears and I am left with the Position Summary, deselect Position Summary, Truss reappears, any ideas. Vectorworks, Inc Employee klinzey Posted August 3, 2005 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted August 3, 2005 The position needs to be hybrid (have 2D and 3D) If the position is 3D only it will not be visable in a 2D when the position sumary is turned on. Quote Link to comment
Simon Carus-Wilson
Kevin. Is there a really easy way of converting an object or Lighting Position to a Hybrid ? When I Import the Truss file in 2D it will read as being 2D/3D in the Resource Browser, however when I insert a piece of truss on the drawing in Top/Plan I lose all the detail. Am I completely missing the point here ? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee klinzey Posted August 3, 2005 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted August 3, 2005 Take a look at the imported object and make sure it has 2d and 3D geometry. If it has so much as a line or a piece of text it will show as 2D/3D. If there is no 2D the easiest way is to select the 3D and use convert copy to polygons. This will give you a 2D projection of the object. Select the 2D and 3D and then group or create a symbol. Quote Link to comment
Simon Carus-Wilson
Kevin. Thank you, that did the trick. Quote Link to comment
Simon Carus-Wilson
Kevin. In case anyone cares, there seems to be a very large difference in Performance if you Convert Copy To Lines instead of Polygons. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee klinzey Posted August 4, 2005 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted August 4, 2005 Which one is faster? If it's the lines that are faster, the problem with lines is that they are just lines, not a fillable object, and will not correctly obscure objects below them etc. Quote Link to comment
