Advice on Studio M2 hardware

Recommended Posts

Hello!  I'm looking for advice on what Apple Studio M2 to specify. This is what I was planning to get......

Apple M2 Max with 12‑core CPU, 38‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine

64GB unified memory

1TB SSD storage

but wonder if its worth spending another £400 to get 96GB unified memory?   The M2 Ultra is just too expensive and also I think not neccessary for me.

The heaviest models I tend to build are up to 500MB.  But thats before lighting and textures.

This is what I am working on at the moment:

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)

4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

32 GB 1867 MHz DDR3

AMD Radeon R9 M395X 4 GB

Which copes well with most models - but viewports and renders can take a while.

I also use Rhino and am starting to learn Blender.

Any advice on what spec would be best for me would be very much appreciated!

I think the configuration is pretty ok.

Especially as you can still work with your project size with your current iMac.

I would not invest too much in a M2 Studio which may be updated significantly

in about a year or so. But if you can't wait and need it now and do not spend to

much, you can upgrade to a new machine a bit earlier.

But I think for your VW, Rhino and Blender usage, your M2 configuration should

again be sufficient for quite some coming years and a noticeable speed bump

over your current iMac.
