Bryson183
I am continuing to get this error every time I try to make a callout. In order for me to make a callout I have to delete the class named Callout. Its not a big deal just annoying and I wanted to see if there is anyway we can fix it so it doesn't happen every time. Marionette Maven Marissa Farrell Posted September 12, 2023 Marionette Maven Share Posted September 12, 2023 @Bryson183 Vectorworks doesn't allow multiple objects to share the same name. Since we have an object named Callout, you naming your class Callout creates a conflict. You could name that class Callouts to get around it, or something else, just not "Callout" Hope this helps! 2 Quote Link to comment
E|FA
@Marissa Farrell Could the error message popup give a clearer explanation? Your response above would be a big improvement. Quote Link to comment
Juliensv
@E|FAThe error message seems pretty clear? "A parametric object named "Callout" has failed because Class Definition with that name already exists within the document" To me, it is pretty clear that you both can't coexist in the same document, so you have to have one or the other. E|FA
Adding the sentence "Vectorworks doesn't allow multiple objects to share the same name" would be an improvement. If you don't know that's a limitation it is not obvious what to do. To me it's not very clear. It is not clear that parametric object types are reserved names, so maybe they should not be allowed to be used to name other Classes, Objects, etc. A better error message would tell you what is wrong, why it's wrong, and what specific thing you should do about it: "The Class Definition 'Callout' is using a reserved name (Callout parametric object). Change the Class name before placing a Callout object." 1 Quote Link to comment
