Brian Lawrence
I have placed a few external connections in my schematic drawing for some cables that are not connected at one end. In the documentation it says that you can connect externals to drop points but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. What am I missing? Quote Link to comment
spettitt
That's interesting, I haven't tried that, but can 100% see the need for it. In my mind, an equipment item for the external schematic object would need to exist. I'll have a go when I'm next near it and have a look. Could you please link to where in the documentation it says it? Quote Link to comment
Brian Lawrence
Here is the link to the documentation. It mentions drop points down at the bottom. https://app-help.vectorworks.net/2022/eng/VW2022_Guide/ConnectCAD/Placing_external_connections.htm?agt=index In the OIP for the external it has the location information for room and rack but it won't let you edit manually. spettitt
Just had a go - check at the top of the OIP of the schematic External object. You drop points should be listed in the 'Name' drop-down. Name seems a confusing label for that field - I would say 'Location' would be better. But it seems that selecting the drop point there avoids the need to represent the External as an object in the model, which is good. It's just a simple assignment. I ran out a cable route to an otherwise-empty drop point and it got me the length correctly, so seems to work. 2 Quote Link to comment
Brian Lawrence
Ah, I see. Not the most intuitive but that's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much! Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Conrad Preen Posted September 11, 2023 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 11, 2023 Yes I agree that it's not that obvious but at least it is there !!! I will note that this has caused some confusion and we'll see if there's a way to address that. Conrad 3 Quote Link to comment
