edit component location in hybrid symbols - never works

abartek

Question

I've been using hybrid symbols more often and am interested / excited by their potential power in streamlining drawing, however that is being hindered by the fact that I have never been successful in moving a 2d component away from the default plane using "edit component location".  This generally results in a fair amount of redundant drawing in order to get elements to stack correctly.

I've tried following the directions in the help documentation with zero success.

At it's simplest, I'm trying to move a 2D top view from the default location (at the top of the 3D object) to a lower location (middle or bottom) so that other elements stack correctly.  The chair / table example in the help is the exact use case i'm trying to accomplish.

Any tips / tricks that might lead to a better experience with hybrid symbols?

Not sure if I really got the problem .....

But usually there is no need (or option) for the 2D parts to move in Z.

If you have a 2D Symbol, it is flat X/Y Z=0.00)

If you have a 3D Symbol it shows the 3D content (for a top view) from top.

If you have a hybrid Symbol in top plan view, the 3D part will be hidden

and replaced by the 2D part of the Symbol.

You should be able to control the 2D parts by changing drawing order,

pushing things to front or into background.

Newer versions of hybrid symbols also allow to create 2D side views

to overwrite the 3D objects in side view plans.

And you can control the appearance by assigning objects to VWs

3 level of detail options.

But maybe I am far off your problem.
