Unlink Spotlight 2D and 3D Components

jacobjz

Question

There should be a way to "unlink" the 2D and 3D compontents of spotlight symbols on a per-instance basis. This would allow 3D components of symbols to live in their real world position for accurate modeling while being able to arrange 2D fixtures as needed for clean Light Plot drafting.

Capture Visualizer has this functionality and it is a much more elegant solution than schematic views.

Schematic views are too limited in their visual appearance and workflow. A new "unlink 2D and 3D positions" option in the OIP would also allow us to do this without creating Spotlight Rigging object, which are often unnecessary and over-complicate files.

Hi Mark, I made a quick video of how this works in Capture. Obviously the trade off is that your 2D and 3D views are no longer linked so they can't update the way schematic views do. But when I'm drafting for theater I often need to do very precise sidelight plates that really exceed the level of control I can get from a schematic view.

Hopefully that video link works!
