Compatibility between licenses

Hello,

 

We have several vectorworks spotlight license in our company. I would like to purchase a design suite license.

Will the files created be compatible between the spotlight and design suite licenses ?

Is it possible to work with different licenses on a file hosted on the cloud or a server ?

I don't have the most up to date information, but I will answer what I can and trust that someone with the complete information will correct me.

 

Historically, all VW Series (Designs, Spotlight, etc) of the same version (eg. VW2023) have been "compatible".

 

Since Designer contains all of the tools of Architect, Landmark, and Spotlight, you can do anything in a file when you open it in Designer.

 

If you open a file in Spotlight that has objects specific to Architect or Landmark, they should display, but you will not be able to edit the parameters of those objects in Spotlight.

 

So if you have one person doing the venue using Designer and then multiple people doing the entertainment aspects, you should be able to get by with a mixture of Designer and Spotlight.

The basics like doors, slabs, and walls are in everything. Things like Structural Members are more limited in which version they are in.

 

Recently (VW2022??) files have started to be "watermarked" by the series. I think you are OK between Designer and Spotlight, but you may not be able to open a Spotlight file in Fundamentals.  I have not been able to find the documentation on this "watermarking", so this is the part I am probably wrong on. Hopefully someone will inform us both.
