As promised, I wanted to highlight some new things you'll see for Marionette in Vectorworks 2017! I've made a little video with snippets of the improved features, and although I haven't gotten to it yet, I'll go into greater depth of the more complicated features and how you could incorporate them into your workflow! (I know, I'm a slacker, but I still haven't gotten over hearing my own voice... so recording more videos has been slightly traumatic.) If you have any questions, big or small, I'm available almost all of the time (while I'm not eating or sleeping) to obsess over Marionette with you!

Random crashes related to openGL - VW2016 sp6 and VW2017sp4.
PawelW posted a question in Troubleshooting
Hi All I got new machine with Ryzen CPU and from day one I started to have random VW crashes. There is no particular pattern - VW will crash regardless from tool or action. It can even crash when I'm not doing anything in the moment and it even happens when working on simple files. It happens to both VW2016 and VW2017. I checked Event viewer and apparently this is an issue with OpenGL driver (nvoglv64.dll) - I tried reinstalling/upgrading and downgrading drivers but with no effect. Event viewer says that driver error code is 3, subcode 7 - on Nvidia community board it was advised to set power to maximum performance (in Nvidia panel) should this error happen - but it didn't help. Apart from VW everything else runs just fine - I have no other issue with any other software. BIOS is up to date as well as all other drivers. Graphic card was used before in my previous machine (win7 i7-2600k) and it worked just fine. Did anyone have similar issue? I started to think this may be related to Ryzen. Did anyone have issues with this CPU? Also I've noticed strange VW behaviour that I didn't encounter on my previous computer: when using eyedropper to copy attributes (i.e. between two simple objects like lines etc.) the whole navigation panel with classes resets itself and it lasts for 1-2 secs. Thanks in advance for any help. Machine specs: Win 10 pro 64 + VW2016 sp6 and VW2017 sp4 CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B350-PLUS 16GB RAM DDR4-2400 Graphic card: Zotac GeForce GTX 970 Nvidia drv. version 384.76-

Today, global design and BIM software developer Vectorworks, Inc. announces the Service Pack 3 (SP3) release for the 2017 line of products, which include Vectorworks® Architect, Landmark, Spotlight, Designer and Vision. “Vectorworks 2017 was a monumental release for us, but we haven’t stopped working to make it the best design software available,” said Vectorworks CEO Dr. Biplab Sarkar. “This feature-heavy Service Pack 3 update reinforces our mission to develop user-friendly and adaptable software that achieves high-quality performance for the ever-changing needs of today’s professional design firms. What’s more, our service packs are a free added benefit to all customers.” SERVICE PACK 3 UPDATES IN VECTORWORKS 2017 The new productivity and performance enhancements in the SP3 release include the following: For a more productive 3D workflow and faster navigation, designers will benefit from improved capability with 3Dconnexion’s 3D mouse. Designers can make use of the 3D mouse and design with two hands for better workflow customization. Functionality on the Mac now aligns with that of Windows. Providing a greater level of control and consistency on Open BIM projects, the new IFC Data Mappings command ensures that IFC has been mapped before exporting to a BIM model. More than 13 times as many high-quality 3D plants from VBvisual are now available by default, at the time of use, enabling more efficient workflows and offering improved visualizations. With IFC symbol import, it’s now possible to instance symbol data, which reduces file import time and file size, therefore improving the overall file performance. When exporting sheet layers to DWG, only the visible objects are exported. This significantly improves the file size when exporting a small, cropped viewport from a large file. Overall performance improvements include but are not limited to the Vectorworks Graphics Module (VGM), structural member object, viewport data visualization and BCF Manager. SERVICE PACK 3 UPDATES IN VISION 2017 Since acquiring what was previously known as ESP Vision, Vectorworks has been committed to the continued development and improved performance of the Vision previsualization software. To this end, the Vision 2017 Service Pack 3 received performance improvements, notably to rendering quality and speed. “I must say, improvements are noticeable and as a customer that makes me happy,” said Gaspar Potcnik, a Vectorworks user, acknowledging the Vision updates. “The new render is much more user friendly.” Other new Vision updates with SP3 include: The new Export Video command allows designers to render out a movie of the currently rendered scene as a video file for improved sharing of design ideas with clients and colleagues Significantly faster file loading time Video capture devices can easily be customized for screen displays More realistic textured objects Current Vectorworks users can apply Service Pack 3 updates by running the “Check for Updates” command, and those purchasing a Vectorworks 2017 license after the Service Pack 3 release should double check that it was downloaded. Vision users can obtain the links to download Service Pack 3 updates by visiting the tech bulletin. To learn more about Vectorworks 2017 software, visit vectorworks.net/2017.

When I have multiple files open in Vectorworks 2017 on a Mac and I hit the minimize button on the window, it minimizes and then pops open immediately. It won't stay minimized. Does anyone have a solution for this? It works fine when I have only one file open. Thanks!

So this morning I spent some time this morning to do some performance boosting to my new computer, an Acer Aspire e 15. I have started to run Vectorworks and everything is running smoother, but the program is not crashing very frequently. It would crash every 15 min, and now when I'm trying to copy symbols and other objects, it crashes immediately. I'm not sure if this is something someone could fix due to the nature of this issue, but if anyone could assist in any way possible that would be fantastic. *UPDATE* It actually just crashes in the Top/Plan view. All of the other views it works fine in. Would anyone know the reason for this issue?

Today, global design and BIM software developer Vectorworks, Inc. introduces the Service Pack 2 update for Vectorworks 2017, which includes a multitude of general improvements to the software along with enhanced compatibility with Bluebeam® Revu® PDF creation, editing and markup software from Bluebeam, Inc., a leading developer of technology solutions for the architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) industries. This improved functionality will appear in the 2017 product line, specifically Vectorworks® Architect, Landmark, Spotlight and Designer. “Accessible open standards, flexible design processes and overall productivity gains are highly prioritized by the design community,” said Steve Johnson, vice president of product development at Vectorworks. “With this in mind, we teamed up with our partner and sister company within the Nemetschek Group, Bluebeam, to provide an optimized PDF export between our robust BIM software and Bluebeam Revu.” As part of the new collaboration capabilities, Vectorworks 2017 has an improved PDF export functionality that now automatically includes Vectorworks space object data and attributes. Space objects can be used as dynamic, data-rich massing model components, supporting BIM workflows as part of the 2D/3D design process with parametric modeling. These data-rich PDF files can be readily imported by Revu users, saving time and increasing accuracy by eliminating the need to enter space object data manually every time an architect issues a revised set of construction drawings. "When it comes to developing a seamless set of applications that work together, interoperability is everything," said Don Jacob, CTO at Bluebeam. "Vectorworks and Bluebeam worked together to tailor a solution for their users that streamlines data transfers, preserving valuable data in the process that Revu users can use to begin working with immediately." To learn more about the other Service Pack 2 performance improvements in Vectorworks 2017 software, read the Vectorworks Knowledgebase article. Current users can implement the Service Pack 2 updates by running the “Check for Updates command,” and those purchasing a Vectorworks 2017 license after the Service Pack 2 release should double check that it was downloaded too.

In conjunction with the BIMobject LIVe Worldwide Business Conference held in Malmö, Sweden on November 2 – November 3, 2016, global design and BIM software developer Vectorworks, Inc. and BIMobject AB announce the availability of the free BIMobject App within Vectorworks 2017 software. In the software program, designers have direct access to a growing library of manufacturer-specific content, which includes detailed geometric and product information, all coordinated and provided via global BIM content provider BIMobject. Current Vectorworks software users can access the tool by downloading the Service Pack 1 update for Vectorworks 2017. “The BIMobject App in Vectorworks 2017 is a major milestone in our continued mission to provide designers with access to building material and product specifications for building information models,” said Robert Anderson, vice president of integrated practice at Vectorworks. “We’re extremely proud to be releasing such a content-rich App, and we greatly appreciate the support of BIMobject in helping make this a reality.” Anderson will be showcasing the App at the two-day BIMobject LIVe conference, which focuses on building information modeling, future technology and the power of digital products’ internet distribution. He will be delivering the presentation, “Vectorworks and BIMobject” at the conference to illustrate the power of Vectorworks software, as well as to provide a demo of the new BIMobject App. The Vectorworks BIMobject App is unique in that it manages and downloads not only Vectorworks native content, but also transparently converts DWG, SKP and 3DS content in the BIMobject Cloud into information-rich Vectorworks content. This is done entirely in the background and delivers the exact user experience no matter the source data format. Using this technology, the App debuts accessing more than 4,600 objects from over 260 brands, which is an unprecedented amount of content for a newly-introduced App. In turn, the manufacturers who support BIMobject with these formats gain immediate access to the Vectorworks user base of up to 650,000 users. The App stores all of the non-graphical object data in Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) format, meaning it is platform neutral with a non-proprietary open file format. This means that if a Vectorworks user creates a project using content from the BIMobject App, then exports using IFC, all manufacturer product information is preserved through the export. “The fact that the BIMobject App for Vectorworks is pre-installed is really good, giving direct access of up to 650,000 potential designers for all our manufacturers and brands that are published in the BIMobject Cloud. It will be a great synergy with the Vectorworks application and make the BIMobject Cloud the preferred choice for downloading BIM objects and product information from the web,” said Johan Dyrssen, teamleader for Web Development at BIMobject.” Learn more about Vectorworks 2017 and its offerings by visiting vectorworks.net/2017.

Hey guys! I'm looking for users who have 2017 installed to test a network for me... It's the file I was using before for image processing. It should be cross platform, so both Windows and Mac users are welcome to give it a go, but you MUST use VW 2017. This network WILL NOT work in 2016. Attached is a file with a test image and a network. My suggestion would be to not change the test image, but if you really, really want to give it a go, make sure it's still a small image. I would recommend under 100x100 pixels - this network takes a while to run if you use a large file. (One of mine took over a day...) Some additional information to be aware of: 1) This network will install an external python library from the web. The library will be installed into your userfolder/Python Externals. You can delete this at any time and it should not affect how VW runs. 2) This network will create a 'temp' folder in your user folder. This folder is created to store the image that is exported from VW, then imported later. This is done because the Pillow commands require an actual image time to query. You can delete this later, if you would like. Every time you run the network, the image will be re-saved to this location, unless you edit the code. 3) Again, DO NOT use a large image. I promise, there's a chance you would regret it. So I'll end this with a 'use at your own risk' clause, and I would suggest saving/closing any important files you have open in VW in the off chance that you encounter a crash/hang/whatever. Please tell me if you encounter a crash! Also, I'll field any questions you have. If you want more info before giving it a go, let me know, and I will do my best to answer them. This is a very limited script at the moment, I still have a lot more in mind. I just want to make sure it goes well small-scale before I go big ImgProcessing.vwx
